this paper was held in 2006
Time Allowed : 3 hours Question 1 Select any ONE of the following topics and write a comprehensive essay on it. (40) a) Earthquakes and their effects on Human life. b) Future challenges and trends in Police Department. c) Importance of continuous and lifelong learning d) Sportsman Spirit e) Street Crimes Question 2 Make a précis of the following passage and suggest a suitable title. (18+2) Each of us acts according to an unwritten list of judgemental choices. We would be likely to make in a given situation. The list is to and ordered one; something would always be chosen in preference to other things. People spend their lives refining this order. In many ways, the list differs from person to person and the same person’s choice might even change at different times in life. We are speaking about values when we speak of making choices according to priority. Some theorists try to categorize all persons into value types. One individual may be the “Theoretical Type” , responding to pursuits of discovery another might be the “Aesthetic Type”, choosing beauty and harmony over other possibilities; still another might be a “Political Type” valuing competition and personal power over other choices. Whether or not it is possible to categorize complex individuals into broad categories of types, experience, and what we need to be continuously aware of is, that all of our thinking and behaviour are value-laden. Question 3 Translate the following passage into Urdu: (20) It is usual to identify flattery with false praise, but this seems to offer a poor definition of flattery, for, false recommendation is easily detectable and, therefore, incapable of achieving the result, while flattery is that praise which is too fine and artistic to fail in its effect - Flattery may, therefore, be defined as the art of praising which aims at magnifying the virtues to the exclusion of vices. But then the person flattered must have some qualities, in fact or in fancy, which can be praised and amplified. Question 4 Translate the following passage into English (20) Ziada tar Pakistani khud tou cricket nahin kheltay magar cricket kay baray mein acha ya bura kehnay ka haq rakhtay hain . Akhsariyat ka khayal yeh hai keh cricket khaalistan aik tafreeh hai laikin hum log jo may aur june kay garam tareen mahino mein galli mohallo mein cricket kheltay hain tou yeh tafreeh kee bajayay saza lagta hai. Kisi dana ka koll hai keh khel kay waqt khel aur kam k waqt kam acha lagta hai. |
