and dude i've checked your profile your subjects are quite good why are you going with IR ? instead of IR think about any other subjects if you are planing to change any of your subject . well this is my view im not expert but this is a suggestion

What are your subjects?

my subjects were indo pak , journalism , sociology , public ad and muslim law in 2011 and 2012 cleared 2011 given 2012 for improvement as result was not declared then waiting for even better result for dmg .
now for 2013 i replaced indo pak with psychology will see another change if needed in coming months but psychology is confirm .

if i want to opt for foreign services, is IR necessary?
and some1 of my acquaintance told me IR helps a lot in interview

dear there is no compulsion to opt IR for FSP even person with punjabi as optional can be selected in the group ,
Things needed or FSP are
1- good written marks
2- your psychological
3- interview
and finally your grand total will decide your group
there is no need to opt IR only for interview your first target should be written . And believe me if your top group is FSP then you will automatically cover this IR material in interview preparation . like muslim law helps in islamiyat and iindo pak helps in pak affair etc but your concern should be good marks in written then interview i assure you will get easy time for interview preparation . choice is yours

day 4 ---- Difference between T.V news, radio news and newspaper , difference between column, feature and editorial
day 5 ---- Pubic Relations ( P.R v/s other forms of communication , tools ,functions , kinds importance , ethics )
day 6 ---- Advertising (importance , role , functions ,responsibilities ,classification and ethics in advertising )
day 7 ---- Code of ethics ( in journalism , pictorial journalism , advertising and P.R )
day 8 ---- Sub Editor ( definition , functions , responsibilities , duties and qualities )
day 9 ---- History of newspaper in sub-continent before muslim press
day 10 ---- Muslim Journalists (hasrat mohani, M,ali johar,zafar ali khan , abdul kalam azad , hameed nizami )
day 11 ---- Role of muslim press in pakistan movement

This is maximum according to me there are 2 major reasons
1 - paper will have 2 bookish questions maximum that this data will cover , usually paper pattern is general in css so all the above mentioned topics are for understanding thhat's why i did'd reffered to histry of bla bla but yes only muslim press
2 - analyse 4 papers you will understand
Note : should have current knowledge about what is media doing -ve or +ve , what should they do etc . You will have 4 spare days so can cover any topic which i missed or didn't referred if you wanted to cover . about present role thier duties etc only you need analysing skills , discuss with fellows home mates as i always say you cannot find every answer in books waiting for feedback
