The bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan are close and friendly.

As two of the world's leading Islamic countries, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have sought to develop extensive commercial, cultural, religious and strategic relations.

A Muslim-majority state, Pakistan has sought to develop close bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia, the largest country on the Arabian peninsula and home to the two holiest cities of Islam, Mecca and Medina and the destination of Muslim pilgrims from across the world.

Development of bilateral relations:

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are leading members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Saudi Arabia was one of the strongest supporters of Pakistan during Pakistan's wars with India, especially opposing the creation of Bangladesh from Pakistan's eastern wing in 1971.

While it had supported Pakistan's stance on the Kashmir conflict, it has since endorsed the Indo-Pakistani peace process.
With Pakistan, it provided extensive financial and political support to the Afghan mujahedeen fighting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s.

During the 1990-1991 Persian Gulf War, Pakistan sent troops to protect the Islamic holy sites in Saudi Arabia,

Along with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were the only states to recognize Taliban rule in Afghanistan.

In May 1998, before Pakistan's Chagai-I nuclear tests, Saudi Arabia promised to supply 50,000 barrels per day of free oil to help Pakistan cope with likely economic sanctions in the aftermath.

Military cooperation:

Pakistan maintains close military ties with Saudi Arabia, providing extensive support, arms and training for the Military of Saudi Arabia.

Pilots of the Pakistan Air Force flew aircraft of the Royal Saudi Air Force to repel an incursion from South Yemen in 1969.

In the 1970s and 1980s, approximately 15,000 Pakistani soldiers were stationed in the kingdom.

Saudi Arabia has negotiated the purchase of Pakistani ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

It is also speculated that Saudi Arabia secretly funded Pakistan's nuclear program and seeks to purchase atomic weapons from Pakistan to enable it to counteract possible threats from arsenals of the weapons of mass destruction possessed by Iran, Iraq, Israel.

Both nations have received high-level delegations of scientists, government and military experts seeking to study the development of a nuclear program.

Cultural and commercial ties:

Saudi Arabia has also provided extensive religious and educational aid to Pakistan, being a major contributor to the construction of mosques and madrassas (religious schools) across Pakistan.

The Faisal Mosque (dedicated to King Faisal of Saudi Arabia) in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

The major Pakistani city of Lyallpur was also renamed Faisalabad in honour of King Faisal in 1977.

Saudi Arabia remains a major destination for immigration amongst Pakistanis, the number of whom living in Saudi Arabia stands between 900,000 and 1 million.

Saudi Arabia was a major supporter of the "Islamisation" program of the military ruler Gen. Zia-ul-Haq in the 1970s.

In 2006, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the highest civilian decoration of Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia is the largest source of petroleum for Pakistan.

It also supplies extensive financial aid to Pakistan and remittance from Pakistani migrants to Saudi Arabia is also a major source of foreign currency.

In recent years, both countries have exchanged high-level delegations and developed plans to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, education, real estate, tourism, information technology, communications and agriculture.

Saudi Arabia is aiding the development of trade relations with Pakistan through the Gulf Cooperation Council, with which Pakistan is negotiating a free trade agreement; the volume of trade between Pakistan and GCC member states in 2006 stood at USD 11 Billion.

Default saarc and the role of pakistan

The idea of regional cooperation in South Asia was first mooted contained by November 1980. The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established when its Charter was formally adopted on Decembers, 1985 by the Heads of State Government of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, South Asia, home to nearly a fifth of humanity, is endowed next to vast natural and human resources.
It was the shared desire of the peoples of South Asia to overcome adjectives problems through mutual cooperation. The primary objective of the Association was, therefore, surrounded by the words of its Charter, "to promote the welfare of the peoples of South Asia and to improve their quality of life".

It has the potential of becoming a vibrant region contained by the world, given its enormous resources in manpower, technology, agricultural and mineral assets, its history and civilization, arts and culture, intra-regional exchanges in the SAARC framework and trade among its Member States can realize much of this potential.

Since the Association's inception, Pakistan have been a supporter of SAARC objectives and has remained an active player on the SAARC platform. It have contributed meaningfully to the establishment, institutionalization and progress of the Association. Pakistan supports a step by step approach for enhancing cooperation and emphasizes the need for better coordination of programs and consolidation of the progress made so far.

Cool pak role in saarc

Pakistan proposes SAARC police force
* Protests discrimination at Indian airports
* India pushing for new laws to curtail terror financing

By Iftikhar Gilani

NEW DELHI: Pakistan has proposed that the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) set up a police force similar to Interpol to aid investigations and prevent crime in the eight-nation grouping. The initiative was suggested at an expert-level meeting held here on Tuesday to formulate an agenda for Thursday’s second meeting of interior and home ministers of SAARC countries.

Pakistan’s representative at the meeting, Dr Shoaib Siddle, called for the establishment of the police network between the SAARC countries and also raised the issue of “dishonouring” of SAARC visa stickers by immigration authorities of nations in the region.

Pakistan discriminated against: Dr Siddle complained to the meeting that Pakistani delegates for SAARC meetings were subjected to rigorous immigration checks at Indian airports despite bearing the SAARC visa exemption stickers. He said the delegates were also prevented from visiting any site that they had not been specifically allowed to visit. Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao will arrive here on Wednesday to participate in the ministerial-level meeting.

India pushes: Meanwhile, India, currently the chair of SAARC, is lobbying for the enactment of a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty. A draft convention of the treaty was circulated at the last SAARC summit in April and met with reservations from Pakistan and Bangladesh. However, the summit declaration had noted that there was a “need for law enforcement authorities of member states to enhance cooperation in the prevention, suppression and prosecution of offences”.

India is also pushing for strict laws and cooperation to dismantle the financing channels of terrorists by addressing issues of money laundering. It has proposed to monitor non-governmental organisations, banks, insurance companies and charitable organisations to prevent their misuse. India also circulated a draft for an additional clause in the SAARC Convention on Suppression of Terrorism that would allow detainees suspected of transnational crimes, such as terrorism, to be available to other countries.

The agenda of Thursday’s conference includes terrorism, drug and human trafficking, money laundering and the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, reported APP.

Since its inception on 25 September 1969, the OIC has acquired a rich experience in the international scene and more precisely within multilateral institutions. Representing 57 member States, the OIC has a considerable weight within these institutions where it makes others listen to the voice of the Islamic Umma and presents the image of moderate Islam, tolerant, open to dialogue and bearing the message of peace, harmony and solidarity between men. It is on this note that the OIC works towards the promotion of Human rights, cooperation between States and peoples and access to modernity for the Umma within the respect of their cultural and civilizational values.

The office of the OIC's action, falls within this framework and is the representation of the General Secretariat to the United Nations offices in Geneva and Vienna. It is also the Secretariat of the group of OIC member States in these two capitals and assumes the role of observer to all organs within the United Nation system, to other international organisations and NGOs as well.

The activities of the OIC and its representation in Geneva and Vienna are transmitted via this website which I hope meets the demand for useful and up to date information, requested by all those interested in the actions of the OIC.

My view regarding preparation of current affairs is that it should be considered and taken from the very beginning and carry it on till the last day before exam.Because C.A is not a single subject and is just not only five or six months of national and international events before css exams but it is a subject of technique and mature views and thinking.A student should know the background of every hot n burning issue.Every issue has a connection with the other.Thats why C.A should be taken from the very first day and take it on till the last day.

I completely agree with you Akther Baloch. We have to study each and every topic and hot issue from the beginning of the year as to increase our knowledge and to refine our critical approach , caz all the examiners know the details about the topics.....They just want to test our critical and analytical approach.........So all of you studying current affairs should start posting the list of hot topics this year.
the down fall of pakistan's economy is one and HEC is there.

salam to all 2012 aspirants!
well i read the above articles and found them v.good in both material and authenticity. The point, i want to make is that some of the participants consider it early to start for Current Affairs Paper, that i believe is not the right thing to say. I suggest, everyone should kick start their preparation from the date of the last paper of 2011 exam. Preparation does not mean that one should be straightaway searching for articles on the net, rather daily newspaper, daily TV News (i prefer PTV news for CSS) are more than enough to begin with.
This is my openion about preparation for CA. I am appearing for the first time in 2012 and last time, because of my age factor. I wish you all and myself the best of luck and seek ALLAH's help for our future ventures.
