1. May I look at your book?( Adil's)
2. We heard of his having met with an accident...,( brother Adil, this is where u err. When u use him instead of his, u split the sentence into two parts which is not desired.'having met with an accident' has become the part of that persons life, so u will have to use possesive pronoun instead of using him.) 3. Such students as have passed the higher secondary examination will be allowed to compete. 4.The sentence is already correct. 5.The boy refused to take the money. 6.Between you and me............... 7. I found my brother lying senseless on the earth/floor/ground. 8.You have given false evidence. ( not witness or testimony for that matter). 9. No sooner did he finish his speech than the clapping began. ( a very simple and delicate principle must be rememberd here that 'sooner' is comparative degree so one must use 'than' to join two halves of the sentence immediately followed by 'did' after 'no sooner' and using the present participle of the verb. And the last verb takes its second form because the work done represents the past action. Hope, it is explained. 10. The socialist party is as good as if not better than any other political party.(Adil's) regards, |

Brother,
Thank you so much for the corrections with explanations. Actually I feel perplexed whenever i'm into the correction business. I just don't know in which direction do we have to take the sentence. The participation in this test doesn't take more than 5 minutes. I feel quite comfortable with it. Please keep the good work up. Regards,

Quote:
brother Naveed, I have a great value for ur objections.....onething u must remember that when you r asked to correct the sentence...u dont have to change the basic structure of the sentence.....try to figure out the syntax errors. Now u see u have written, for example, " may i have" to replace 'can' whereas u could only have written 'may' to suffice. In another sentence u have inserted 'only' instead of 'such..............as have'......now u can urself judge that after correction the word wise structure of the sentece remained same. Brother whenever u correct any sentence ..try to keep its structure intact, as much as possible; but if still the labyrinths did not yield, then only u can go for little changes. in the other sentence u have ommitted the words ' if not beeter than' altogether. Now u urself decide this. anyway, brother as i have already told u that i m not an authority...if u find anything better than this, do tell me too...and the others also...we r all here to learn..and share.....no one claims to be the Master of All They Survey. Regards,
