Urban migration and Urbanization
Is there any difference between urbanization and urban migration? i personally think that urbanization refers to the transformation of rural areas into urban areas by acquiring urban personality whereas urban migration refers to the movement of people from rural to urban areas. The question given in sociology subjective referred to the process of establishment of new towns and cities in rural areas. Am i right in my approach?

The Basic definition of urbanization is as follows:
"Urbanization is defined as a process of people moving into cities and surrounding areas from the more rural areas" ( dictionary.com). / Increase in the number of urban population. As evident from the definition urbanization doesnot mean the conversion of villages into cities. Urbanization is also defined by the United Nations as movement of people from rural to urban areas with population growth equating to urban migration. Urbanization is migration, more specifically Migration of rural population to the cities. (migration could be in both directions, but when it is towards the urban areas the process is called urbanization). Thus in my opinion when the checker asked to describe in detail the urbanization process, he meant to explain and define in detail the urbanization process, explain why the trend of urbanization is increasing, what are the disadvantages of urbanization if not properly controlled. |

Urbanization is defined by the United Nations as movement of people from rural to urban areas with population growth equating to urban migration.
Urbanization, simply defined, is the shift from a rural to an urban society, and involves an increase in the number of people in urban areas during a particular year. Urbanization is the outcome of social, economic and political developments that lead to urban concentration and growth of large cities, changes in land use and transformation from rural to metropolitan pattern of organization and governance.

..Urbanization is considered good..
urbanization is indicator of development.so one should not post negative aspects of urbanization.. second migration is an element and if you are going to define urbanization than you should refer the emergent developments and no doubt there is population change or migration but that migration is due development... so further it will lead to cultural change.. and so on ...do you study D--3 GROUP RESEARCH ABOUT LEBANON AND SYRIA

Without a doubt urbanization is good, what i wanted to convey was the fact that urbanization should occur in a planned and coordinated way, unplanned and haphazard urbanization gives rise to many problems, such as housing problems, sanitation, lack of health facilities, growth of slum areas, etc. This happens when urbanization is unplanned not coordinated and haphazard.

Dear shanrafiq
The question on urbanization in paper was: Q.4: Discuss in detail "Urbanization as a process". I am also a contestant in CE-2011. Sociology was one of my optionals. I didn't attempted the said question. Following could be my answer: Urbanization: Defination (since not asked in question, one may omit) Urbanization as a process: Urbanization, in conventional terms, refers to the process through which society is transformed from one that is predominantly rural, in economy, culture and life style, to one that is predominantly urban. So discuss and expand the above small para. What are the processes involved through which a society transformed from rural to urban. You will not required to give advantages or disadvantages. Just explain the process in detail.

This question was just a short essay on urbanization. There was nothing amibigious in it. Question can be attempted in this way:: Definition What is urbanization Process __ Detail with examples Social change factor Causes behind urbanization (lot many can be added, like employment, education, health, better standard of life) Effects of Urbanization (Structural impact, social impact, economic impact, environmental impact, demand-supply gap, law and order) Transformation of society___Through the lenses of culture, manners, norms, behavior Merits and Demerits Conclusion This may have been the way to express the said question, if you even stay relatively general as well... You need to read the question between the lines he didnt ask the change in only groups he atullay asked change in collective behavior.....So here you need to write a little sticky.... 2ndly what you mentioned that you wrote in primary,2ndry,peer groups that is general division of groups that doesnt describe the behavioral patterns. Though if you have written in conformity of social change within these groups explaining theories rightly then your question may be marked right. But Dont worry Sociology is not science here you have option to generalize everything.... Regards.
