He asked me as to (that) how I would manage it. You can avoid "as to" and "that". Quote:
Demise = Death Incorrect:My friend is very ill, i hope he will soon die. Correct: My friend is very ill, i fear (I am afraid) he will soon die. Incorrect: He is waiting for better and promising opportunity. Correct: He is waiting for a better and promising opportunity. Quote:
When I see her I will deliver your gift to her. Now try to understand the sentence given in exam: "When I shall see her I will deliver her your gift." Here in this case "to" is not needed in between deliver and her. Sentence sounds correct without inserting "to". Error is in the usage of tense i.e. "shall" in the first part of the sentence. Correct: When I see her I will deliver her your gift. Note: Normally examiner includes only one error/mistake in the sentence. Don't suspect multiple errors in one sentence while solving such type of questions in the exam. Keeping in view this rule we can discard the possibility of 2nd error after rectifying the sentence by removing "shall" from the first part of the sentence. So possibility of missing "to" is remote in this sentence. Last edited by Princess Royal; Sunday, March 07, 2010 at 07:35 PM. |

I wont indulge into a debate over these two points but I differ on these solutions. "more" is an addition from your side which can be omitted without affecting the correctness of sentence. Great question dear Umar. You have given a right direction to those who are confused in the meaning of demise. If they can answer the antonym of "demise" they can easily accept "death" as the exact synonymous. Last edited by Andrew Dufresne; Sunday, March 07, 2010 at 07:43 PM. Reason: Merged |

Demise is "End of an activity or something that used to exist" e.g imminent demise of the local newspaper; demise of a steercar, demise of a human life, imminent demise of the forces of evil.
Antonym: Entity, being, begin.
