Precis
Psychological Causes of unhappiness
There are various causes of unhappiness but the main is deprivation of basic rights in childhood. A person becomes pessimist and sad forever. It increases its lust of pleasure so he seeks it everywhere. In order to get it, one opts wrong means to please him but all went in vain. Author says the only way to make him happy is to pursue him and make him optimistic and make him believe that happiness can be achieved another time. Fewer of them are aware to become happy so they seek happiness in their sadness. This makes them happy and they being sad live happy life.

Dear seniors and members.

I attempted this short essay(Yellow Journalism) in 2011 but i committed a blunder. Yellow journalism means sensationalism but i took its meaning as a type of journalism which lacks in objectivity. I am now worried about this blunder. Can you confirm if i ll be able to get some marks for this answer? I think i would not be awarded full marks for this question but i want to ask you if would be awarded 3 or 4 marks instead of 10 or 12 marks.

Here is my original answer which i actually wrote in the exam. Please assess my answer.

Yellow Journalism

Yellow journalism is a type of journalism in which one of the features of journalism or news is missing that is objectivity. In other word, yellow journalism lacks in objectivity. There are variours reasons to resort to this kind of journalism. One of the major reasons is to hide the truth. The yellow journalism has been employed by the U.S in Iraq. Also it is being employed in Pakistani politics. Wherever it is employed, the object is to hide the truth.

The U.S waged war on Iraq in 2003 under the garbage of weapons of mass destruction. In other words, the U.S attacked Iraq on the ground that Iraq was producing weapons of mass destruction. However, it was only an excuse; The U.S wanted to capture oil resources of Iraq. But Amercia told the world media an untrue reason behind the war. Thus the journalism lacked in objectivity.

Moreover, it is also employed in Pakistani politics. Our politics is characterised by telling lies and by misgivings. A lot of happenings take place in pakistan but these never come to scene. If these eventually come to scene, they lack objectivity or they are half truth.

Thus it can be said that yellow journalism is a type of journalism in which truth is lacking. (210 words)

Thanks Sheeraz for your comments. And you are right that sensationalism is also devoid of objectivity. There are also many meanings of many English words including yellow journalism. And the meaning or context assigned by me to the yellow journalism might be one of those meanings. But what most of people claim is that yellow journalism implies sensationalism. People say that you should have directly hit sensationalism. On top of list of the meanings assigned to yellow journalism is also this meaning, that is sensationalism.

My question still remains to be answered. That is even if i have deviated from the main topic, would the examiner award some marks(3 or 4 not 10 or 12) for the answer?

@Faheemjani-Your title is perfect and you began your precis excellently but after start of your precis, your precis has become vague. There are 4 causes of unhappiness in the original question but you have discussed only one cause, that is deprivation in childhood.

The original question also contains one solution of unhappiness but there is no need to discuss it in the precis because your title does not allow you to discuss it.

Moreover, your precis should have 120 words(360/3) but you wrote only 105.I am not sure whether the examiner would deduct marks for this mistake.

Well, the precis or summary is always written in one paragraph. Where two or more than two ideas or points of view are given in the passage, we link them up in one para by using connectives such as however, moreover, on the other hand, on the contrary etc. Always remember to write the precis in just one paragraph.

AoA
"Exploring the world of English" by "Sadaat Ali Shah" is highly recommended by most of the CSPs, have a look at Page # 976, Page # 985, Page # 996, Page # 1000, Page # 1009, Page # 1016. You will find there précis with more than one paragraph.
