ummm, well it is not a FATAL mistake really, but can't say much. It depends on the paper checker. I hope someone else gives you a more soothing reply. But actually i have had a bad experience regarding such a mistake. In my university final year, i had made a presentation and on the first slide, i had put small a in ALLAH in the translation of Bismillah. And though the presentation went well but my professor gave me ZERO out of 10. :| - But then there are a lot of things which the examiner will see in your paper, lets pray he considers this a small mistake and spare you.

For ppl who opted 'Energy Crisis'
keep following points in mind:
1) don't give historical background in essay 2) don't write quotations, facts n figures, idioms in essay 3) just write what is asked 4) no need to use flowery language in essay u can write as much on a topic as u can. if the examiner asks 'Energy Crisis' in paper, u write intro, causes, consequences, suggestions, n conclusion. if he specifies 'Energy Crisis: Causes n Consequences', n u again write in paper intro, causes, consequences, remedies, conc., it means u don't know how to attempt paper. why he specified 'Causes n Consequences'? bc he wanted us to remain sticked to what he wanted to ask. one can write 3 hrs on causes only. one can also include consequeces n suggestions too. the Q is what to write? is it our will? No. we have to answer what is asked; nothing more, nothing less. im afraid for the ppl who focused on 'Suggestions' (bc these were not asked) when 'Causes n Consequences' r specified, n one can write on it for 3 hrs, then why to go for such a thing which is not asked? In short, its not good to write "suggestions" in "Energy Crisis: Causes n Consequences." Hope u ppl got my point. take care. |

Essay CE-2012 Energy Crisis
Dear Afzal!
Each essay has three essential elements that constitute its structure viz. Introduction, Body, Conclusion. Now introduction is a plateform where you can provide some background and interesting info indirectly or directly linking to the main body. One can include some history of energy crisis in Pakistan that how we got this in Pakistan. This introduction should not stretch on more than two pages. After introduction comes the main body, here one should present organized information directly related to the topic i.e Causes of Energy crisis (economic, political, social, environmental, technical) and then consequences (economic, social, political, environmental). After all this comes the tailing part of an essay, that is the conclusion. In conclusion paragraph (stretching on one page) one can present some solutions to this burgeoning menace. And then conclude the essay on some spakling thought, idea or quotation. I attempted by Essay in CE-2012 in the above mentioned style. And it consumed me one hour to make an outline with headings and sub headings stretching over one hand half sheet. Then in remaining two hours I just wrote, wrote and wrote on the set outline. I wrote 9 pages on the essay (11 including outline). I think my strategy would work as I did not wander too much away from the topic. I am sure I would pass that paper (Insha Allah). What do you people think? Any success stories of people writing 10-12 pages essay an getting passed. Please do share. Regards,

I am, unequivocally, agree with you, even i adopted the same strategy and did only focus on both causes and consequences, because examiner didn,t want anything else. one should stick to the point which is being asked. God Bless.

why not facts & figures if they are demand of essay ? I met a person who got 65+ in essay.I asked him tips.He said he had been student of Sir Razi Abidi for some time & he told them,"Don't use language of tom, dick and harry.Your selection of words should be of high level.Use good(flowery)vocabulary to show your grip over English." I personally like simple words & I passed by using them so I don't have any inclination towards flowery language. But if that professor has emphasized on use of flowery language then it must have some importance. Actually candidates blindly write heavy vocabulary even if it isn't needed according to the argument. It damages their impression. If uncommon words are used in an impressive manner and they are relevant then it would be a plus point.

Well, it may seem odd to some one but I am very much sure there is no criteria of FPSC to mark Essay paper. Obviously, relevant content / material is the prerequisite but sometimes mood of the examiner is the most important thing, sometimes flowery language may be of prime importance, some times facts and figures may do the trick, sometimes quotations may add color to essay and sometimes simple vocab along with good presentation may be the decisive factor and so on....I agree selection of words is contributory factor in success but at the same time what if words are so naive or difficult that even examiner has to consult dictionary to understand its meaning? Obviously, he/she will not feel impressed...
The problem is that every teacher / examiner may have its own preferences which he/she may consider most important for grading Essay. Once, I was reading the essay written by Mufakhar Adeel (2nd position holder in CSS 2006). I was amazed to notice that there was not a single word which could not be understood by even an intermediate student. He scored 66 in that essay. So my advice is to give your essay a bit flavour of all necessary ingredients like relevancy to the topic, simple words along with a touch of some high-vocab words, facts and figures, examples, quotations, arguments etc to be on safer side as you never know preference / weightage the examiner will be giving to certain aspects while marking essay paper.
