Pakistan can become a self reliant state if we start thinking that we are capable enough to solve our problems on our own, it's all about changing the perception.we assume that we are a failed country, our politicians have a ''great'' role in developing this perception at national and international level, but still we have a long way to go and insha Allah a time will come when we will achieve the status of a developed country,

In my opinion, we should focus on following aspects for self-dependence,

1. Foreign debts should be compensated first, there are a number of ways for doing so

2. Relying on our own resources instead of looking at others to help us, we have rich agriculture resources and above all human resource

3. Providing opportunities to our human resource to reduce brain drain, capacity building is the need of the hour.

4. Sovereignty is the key for respect at global level....we need to improve our image, so that investors don't consider Pakistan a ''red zone country''

5. Educating the masses, skill development

6. Internal stability to check the foreign propaganda..... in this way we will be self confidant and a respectable nation.

Thank you Mano g for sharing your opinion.that added to my knowledge.

We need to go a long way to achieve any of it.like How can we free ourselves from the foreign debts ?What could be the possible strategy ?Who will channelize our human resources? When the government is busy fighting over their own political issues.and how can Pakistan protect its sovereignty with a poor foreign policy ?When President Obama clearly states that the Drone attacks shall be continued.
And how can the internal stability be maintained when parliamentarians are at the verge of dissecting Pakistan into more provinces. The actual face of our country is no where near finding any solutions .

yes this is the dilemma........we don't have fearless and dedicated leadership, problem lies in the implementation, otherwise there is no scarcity of ideas....political will is lacking unfortunately...we have the example of Dr samar mubarik mand, who is providing solutions for energy crisis, but zero response from government side....

First of all we need to change individual's belief, faith on ALLAH Almighty and hope for betterment. Most of the Pakistani are hopeless, even does not believe on their own abilities. We need to change our thoughts, if we believe our-self then others will accept us and respect us. And before expecting anything from govt, it should be in our public. Our politician are our representatives, they are from us. So we should change our self to change them.
And we badly need to work a lot for our educational system that is the most important system of any country, all our sections based on it; if this system established properly then others will establish automatically.

An internal harmony is the key to stabilization within a country; if a nation is internally troubled it cannot handle the external issues appropriately. And that's our issue as well.We are not strongly inclined to find solutions because our government is busy in personal politics and the public is busy in playing their part as the spectators to the big drama .
If we want to become self reliant , We have to strengthen our fragile economy , so that we have something to rely on. And that cannot be done without having the taxes from the rich .And again for ensuring the implementation of the rules we need fair accountability as well. Because corruption is eating both our economy and our people.
A better economy can put us on the path to progress .

Self-reliance has a broad scope.A country is politically self reliant if it is economically self reliant. It is economically self reliant if it is financially self reliant. But an unanswerable question arises how to attain that sound economy under this lot of crook leadership and sleeping nation? Unless there is drastic dent made on current statuesque,it would be imprudent to even have thought of word' Self Reliance' attached to Pakistan.

It seems a distant dream to me since I consider myself realistic person therefore I wont build castles in the air by suggesting with exaggeration groundless steps which are not going to be materialized/utilized by this part of planet.

however few positive points are enlisted below which need contemplation with belief of further exploration & implementation.

.The country has the second largest salt mine in the world.
.fifth largest gold mine,
.seventh largest copper mine,
.fifth largest coal reserves,
.seventh largest wheat and rice production capacity (can be enhanced to be .the largest), is eighth in the rankings of fresh water availability with 2,053 cubic meters of water per person in 1995.

.Coal utilization can save four billion dollars by reducing oil import costs. Dr Murtuza Mughal of Economic Watch stated that coal power generation can cost Pakistan Rs 5.67 per unit for power generation while IPPs cost Rs9.27 for the same. Other than coal, Pakistan is also rich in wind and bio resources of energy.

Our country is not poor but it is poorly managed since its inception.

Regards,

Miss mano g, Mr invincible, and the other fellows gave nice suggestions. Apart from them, I think the following measures can also be taken.

1-Ours is a political economy. It bulges when our interests conform with the interests of the USA and shrinks when it's other way around. Cases in point: Ayubs era, Ziaulhaq's regime and Musharraf's interlude. Need of the hour is we alienate politics from economy and vice versa, and erect it on sound footings.
2- Bring about green revolution as India did (1965-80).
3- Entrust every individual of the state with a responsibility, set them targets to achieve. That is to say, make them feel as if we are building a home for all of us. ACO/DCOs etc can do it at district level.
4- Shut out the Pak-Afghan border. All the black marketing+drug dealing takes place there.
5- Shun all sorts of confrontation with India for the time being.
6- Straighten relations with Taliban.
7- No compromise on the issues of national interest as energy needs with anyone. Let America say what it has to say, we are going to complete IP pipeline project.
8- Shut out Saudi Arabia's influence in Pak.
