So the comments I make for the need of blasphemy laws in the country will be removed, is it not bias? Is it not impartiality on the part of the person who removed my comment? Do I not have a right to speak for Islamic provisions? Sad. This is not how debates are held, it is a public forum where participants come and share their viewpoints. When a person has shared his viewpoint, why could not I share my viewpoint? Just because it was in favor of Islamic law? I took it as a debate and still my comment was removed; debating something is a sign of educated people. Kindly do not remove my comment needlessly, perhaps solely because I write in favor of Islam. Blasphemy law is enshrined in the proviso to Article 19 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, wherein freedom of speech is allowed but no utterance against the glory of Islam is permitted. Blasphemy law keeps people from hurting others' sentiments. It is vital for achieving peace within a state. Blasphemy law is not bad just because the Western media tend to paint it so.

My recent article entitled "Psychology and Religion" published in May issue of World Times magazine

Theologically, psyche is called ‘Nafs’ which is its translation. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran, “Every nafs shall have a taste of death…” (Surah Aal-e-Imran, Verse 185). We all know that when a person dies, his body remains on earth (in grave), and his soul (Rooh) moves to the heavens. Then, what did die? It’s his psyche (nafs) which is the connector of soul and body.

علم دین کی رو سے، سائکی نفس کہلاتی ہے، جو کہ اس کا ترجمہ ہے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ قرآن پاک میں سورة العمران کی آیت نمبر 185 میں فرماتے ہیں کہ ہر نفس نے موت کا مزہ چکھنا ہے ۔ ہم سب جانتے ہیں کہ جب انسان مرتا ہے تو اس کا جسم زمین پہ قبر میں رہ جاتا ہے اور روح اوپر آسمان پہ پرواز کر جاتی ہے ۔ تو پھر موت کسے آئ۔ یہ سائکی یا نفس ہے جو مرتا ہے جو کہ روح اور جسم کا کنکٹر ہے۔ اور اس کنکٹر کے مرنے کے بعد جسم اور روح آپس میں مل نہیں سکتے۔

When in Rome, don’t do as the Romans do

East and the West are two mainstream cultures of the world. Eastern countries are Central Asian states, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Palestine, Oman, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and many others. Western world comprises the United Kingdom, the United States, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Canada, Australia and others. Eastern culture is completely different from western culture. There is a famous maxim attributed to Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”, but it is better to follow our own culture of the East when someone goes to any occidental country, because eastern culture is better than western culture. Contemporary example of this is that when Iranian president Hassan Rouhani went to France in January 2016 and asked for Halal and Alcohol-free lunch with Francois Hollande, but lunch scrapped after host refused to take wine off the menu.

As Allama Muhammad Iqbal said in his verse, “Albeit winter wind had the swiftness of sword, even in London I didn’t give up the habit of early morning rise”. Allama Iqbal tried to say in his verse that during his time of stay in London he faced hardship, but didn’t mingle in western culture and continued his earlier routine.

After comparing eastern culture and western culture it comes to know that our eastern culture is much better than western culture. It is a common perception that western women are in a better position as compared to eastern women, but the reality is opposite to that. Dr. Farzana Bari, director of the gender studies department at Quaid-e-Azam University, described her experience which shows the real situation of western women.

According to Dr. Farzana Bari, on March 3, 2013, she was traveling on Air France flight 1139 from Vienna, Austria and landed in Paris, where a man started punching on a stranger woman’s face while pulling by her hair in the plane and no one went to the woman’s help and even some enjoyed the situation while having a smile on their faces. Afterwards the man with another woman and a child left the plane and went away.

The violated woman instead of calling Police started weeping in a typical manner because as per their folkways this all was common. We can’t imagine all this in Pakistan because we give a special reverence to females. If a man in Pakistan misbehaves with a female, then many people come to save her, which is a positive point of our culture. So it is better to continue following this aspect, instead of adopting their style.

Religious factor cannot be ignored in a culture. Eastern societies give more importance to spirituality as compared to western societies. According to Gallup Poll research report 100 percent population of Bangladesh, 99 percent of Sri Lanka, 97 percent of Afghanistan, 92 percent of Pakistan, 84 percent of Iraq and 77 percent population of India are religious. In contrary to that, western culture is less religious. According to the same research report, seventeen percent population of Sweden, nineteen percent of Denmark, 27 percent of the United Kingdom, 40 percent of Germany, 41 percent of Switzerland and 42 percent of the Canadian population is religious.

Islam, the second largest religion of the world, cannot be neglected while discussing religion. Islam is ubiquitous in the East, but the situation is not same in the West. Indonesia has 204 million Muslim population, Pakistan has 178 million, India has 172 million, Bangladesh has 145 million, and Afghanistan has 29 million Muslim population. On the other side in the western world Muslim are in the minority. While keeping in front this point, it is better to remain the follower of own religion instead of adopting what is common in the western world.

Whichever the religion is, it maintains the rules and ethics and its followers remain within the circumference of those ethics. If there is no any religion in a society, then it will lead to unethical actions like improper code of dresses, drugs, and prostitution, and eventually the society will fall.

One another cultural factor which should not be followed, even if someone moves to any occidental country, is family style. Eastern cultures are family centric, but in western civilizations, the self is given preference over family. In eastern countries, people like to live with family, they give respect to their family members, try to understand the problems of siblings and spouse and try to solve other’s problems as their own, but in western countries no one bothers to understand others problems and prefers to live separately and doesn’t like to consult their matters with their family.

According to national censuses of countries, in 2011 the numbers of homes in Canada with just one occupant were 27.6 percent, 27 percent Americans were living alone in 2013 and thirteen percent population of England and Wales were living alone in 2011. In India only 1.1 percent population is living alone and about 0.8 percent Pakistanis are living alone, which are very less as compared to western countries. Living alone and not consulting a problem with family members, causes tension, anxiety, frustration and many other psychological problems. Western people who live with their family members they all have to work to fulfill economical needs of the family. In eastern cultures, it is the male’s responsibility to earn for his spouse and children, but in western countries, women also have to face this burden and after a certain age their children also have to work with studies for bread and butter. Western women are forced to work with their male counterparts due to their economical situations, but in eastern countries mothers work with their own will. As per national statistics, 88 percent British mothers, 82 percent American mothers, and 76 percent Swedish mothers are working women. On the eastern side India has 31 percent female workers and Pakistan has 24.4 percent working females and not all of them are mothers.

If a person marries, then it is his responsibility to bear the burden of family and provide all what his wife needs at home, but if his wife wants to work for earning, then he should not deny her. From this point of view eastern mothers are happier than western mothers so it is better to continue following this factor of eastern culture.

In western culture when one doesn’t try to understand the other’s problem and only thinks about own matters, then it is followed by controversies which leads to divorce. There are many factors of divorce, but divorce rate in western culture is really high. According to NVSS National Marriage and Divorce Rate Trends, 53 percent of American couples’ relations end in divorce. According to Eurostat research report, 47 percent of marriages in the United Kingdom end in divorce, 55 percent French marriages end in divorce and divorce rate in Germany is 49 percent. Belgium with highest divorce rate, 71 percent, is also a western country.

In eastern culture divorce rate is low due to understanding, compromise and involvement of families to settle disputes. The divorce rate in India is thirteen per 1000 marriages which is lowest in the world. India has the lowest divorce rate because there is no option of divorce in Hinduism; women have to endure all the cruelties of husband for the whole life. So Muslim countries of eastern culture where divorce is allowed, there also divorce rate is low comparing to western countries. The divorce rate in Libya is five percent, in Tajikistan is six percent, and in Uzbekistan and Pakistan is eight percent. So even if someone moves to occidental country, then he should not adopt divorce trend which is common there.

After divorce, the next factor penetrated in western culture is their eating and entertainment style. Alcohol, cigarette, drugs, late night parties, casinos and pubs are common which are unethical and bad for health. Junk foods which are the main cause of obesity are also popular in western culture.

The Western concept is, "the more you expose the more modern you are." On western beaches females lie for sunbathe in public and prefer to wear those dresses in which they can show off their body and going on a date with their boyfriends is also common due to which most of the girls lose their virginity in early age. According to the centers for disease control and prevention, only 12.3 percent of females and 14.3 percent of male Americans aged 22 to 24 are virgin, whereas the average age of first marriage in the United States is 27 for women and 29 for men.

So what happens in western culture after doing all this rubbish in life, when a person enters in the old age? In old age, his/ her children through him/ her in nursing homes. 1.3 million Americans from 46.2 million population of 65 years or older live in nursing homes where they perish.

So it proves that our eastern culture is better than western culture and when in Rome, or not in Rome, don’t do as the Romans do. Instead of following western culture, it is wise to follow our own folkways and style of living. Due to globalization and fast means of communication new generation is adopting western culture which should not be adopted and our own eastern culture should be promoted.

BIPED STRAY DOGS



The person to whom I mostly go for my car repair always remains buoyant and cheerful, but the last time when I went to him, he seemed apathetic. I asked from him the reason when I saw a drop of tear secreting from his eye and he replied in a lethargic way that he had a seven year old daughter who was harassed by his neighbor when she went alone from her house. Then he said that he couldn’t do anything in that situation, he couldn’t shift to another area, because it is possible that there would be more people like that. Nor he could go to report to the police station because it could be a source of humiliation and our police is also bad in repute from which we can’t expect for something good. How his family will survive by secluding from the world and spending their remaining lives in the four walls of the house? Man is a social animal who can’t live without interacting with other human beings living in his society, but if there aren’t human beings, but hounds waiting to attack, then it becomes difficult to survive.

In the start of August 2016, government started stray dogs killing operation in Karachi, now it’s the need of time to start anti biped stray dogs operation in the whole country. There are many biped stray dogs wandering in our streets in the search of a female going alone, to make her their prey. They don’t have any sense of humanity, respect or norms, but only the lust to fornicate. In this scenario no one’s mother, sister, daughter or wife is safe.

Once these stray dogs were only limited to streets, but now they are also in offices, educational institutions and even in hospitals. Due to them, female employees, students and patients are not safe. As between April 09 and April 10, 2016 night at 2 AM a male Hindu nurse named Krishan Kumar of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital raped a disabled girl – a resident of district Swabi – lying on the bed of surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Krishan Kumar is a person against whom a female colleague nurse lodged an FIR in Margalla Police Station in 2014 that he raped her, but no strict action was taken against him and this time he raped that 22 years old disabled innocent girl. After this incident NGOs who always remain busy to talk about minority rights remained mum at this incident. This shows that hospitals which were considered as safe houses are now not safe due to these stray dogs.

There are different types of families in our society. Some people remain silent after such incident to save themselves from abasement, some go to report the case to the police, and the last category is of the people who lynch mercilessly to the girl and the boy or only girl in the name of honour killing. Numbers of people belonging to the first category are more as compared to the remaining two. Whichever the type of people they are, victims of this heinous act always become the innocent girls.

1,582 rape cases were reported in 2014 in Pakistan. Most of the rape cases remain un-reported; otherwise the real number is higher. There are different facets of rape in Pakistan. Sometimes class fellows of the girls or their internet friends coax them toward rape, sometimes working women are harassed by their colleagues, sometimes unknown men catch girls and sometimes local kangaroo courts give their verdict to rape a girl as it was happened in 2002 with Mukhtaran Mai. In every case rapist ruins the girl’s life.

A nation is not just like a group of people living in a country; a nation is like a family in which everyone respects another girl same like his mother or sister. Now the world has changed from the global village to global hut. News in a country spreads all around the world within a minute due to faster means of communication. A single rape case is not only a source of shame for just her family, but for the whole nation in all around the world.

There are several factors which promote this crime. First one is illiteracy due to which many people don’t understand the norms and ethics and commit that crime. The second factor is not marrying of people in proper age due to which they fulfill their sexual desires by wrongful means. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs sex is the primary need of a person as food and breathing. If a person is not married then there are chances that he will fornicate. The third factor is not properly conviction of rapists. As in Mukhtaran Mai case five out of six accused acquitted by the court and commuted the punishment for the sixth man to a life sentence. According to section 375 of the Pakistan Penal Code, rape punishment is death or a life imprisonment but it is rarely given.

If we don’t punish a crime, then it will increase day by day. There are many countries in which rape punishment is death and they also implement it commonly like in Saudi Arabia, China and Iran. Our lethargic legal system also leads to many problems. We call Afghanistan as in some decades past than us, but for gang rape with four women in August 2014, death sentences were given to seven men, then in October in the same year five of them were hanged who were found guilty.

It is necessary to punish the culprit, if we want to control the crime. If we don’t give death sentence while neglecting section 375 of the Pakistan Penal Code, that Amnesty International and other international organizations will stand against our action if we give death sentence, then we need minimum to castrate the culprit with imprisonment as his punishment to make him incapable to do this act again in future, but it is not just to let him go due to slow judicial process.

These are norms and ethics which make a person human being. If a person doesn’t have ethics and only seeks for pleasure then there is no difference between him and a dog, with the exception of the difference of two or four legs. In this situation, it is not safe to allow these biped dogs to wander in the streets freely. Proper action should be taken against them; otherwise they will achieve their motives to ruin our society.

Saudi Arabia’s Erroneous Foreign Policy

Saudi Arabia’s severing of ties with Qatar has laid bare the schisms in the Arab world. The crisis in this diplomatic relationship has huge implications for the region as Saudis, along with some other Gulf states, are heading toward a collision and it vividly exposes Saudi Arabia’s aspirations in the Middle East. So far, all diplomatic efforts to diffuse the crisis have failed. The following write-up will analyze KSA’s interference in other states’ affairs and will present an analysis on the 13 demands made by Saudi Arabia and its allies to Qatar.

The roots of problems in Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy can be traced back to February 14, 1945, when Saudi King Abd al-Aziz allowed US President Franklin D. Roosevelt to build a US airfield in Dhahran (an oil town in eastern Saudi Arabia on an inlet from the Persian Gulf), in return for military and business support. But Saudis made the real blunder after 1973-74 oil shock, when they accepted Henry Kissinger’s advice on petrodollar. According to that deal, KSA was to price oil in US dollars and also influence other OPEC members to do the same. In return, US would protect Saudi Arabia and its allies against any foreign invasions and domestic rebellions.

There is no denying the fact that the Americans pursue their own interests when it comes to supporting Saudi Arabia – or for that matter any other country – because Washington intends to dominate oil resources and market. Saudi Arabia’s bonhomie with the United States is one of the many causes behind its thorny relationship with Iran. KSA-Iran relationship considerably deteriorated after the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Iran accuses the KSA of being an American agent in the region.

Whatever turn the situation takes, a country should try not to break diplomatic relations with any other state, especially those in its neighbourhood. Nonetheless, it happened in the case of Iran. After KSA executed Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr, numerous protests were held in Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, India, Lebanon and Turkey; even Saudi diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad were ransacked by angry mobs. In the aftermath of this incident, KSA severed its diplomatic relations with Iran. It must be understood that wars often occur after a series of escalatory events, rather than a singular decision, and embassies working in other countries play the most important role in handling such situations. Prospects of war between Saudi Arabia and Iran can be the beginning of a major catastrophe in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is worried about Iran becoming a hegemon in the region, and it has developed a foreign policy to stop that from happening at any cost.

Conflicts in the Middle East, whether in Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq or Syria, share a common factor: the rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia. During the early days of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s rule, relations remained comparatively serene. But the 2011 Arab Spring changed altogether the region’s scenario.

“The ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims, and Pak Army’s response”

After the plight of Muslims in Myanmar (Burma), for the last few days a great hue and cry was noticed on social media that why Pakistan armed forces are not attacking that Buddhist government. So I want to clarify the reason that why the Pak Army is not attacking. The air distance between Pakistan and Myanmar is 2800 KM, for which Pakistan Air Force’s aircrafts will have to fly over India and Bangladesh, which would never allow for doing so. Another way is to use alternate route, by flying over China. In Myanmar case, China is between Scylla and Charybdis, because there are also some Chinese ethnic groups living as a minority, like Kokang which has the estimated population of about 1.6 million. The Chinese government also wants their safety, if China allows her air space to attack Myanmar, then it could endanger her own ethnic groups living there. Another point is that China is looking Myanmar to connect her with One Belt One Road project, thus any action by former government against latter can spoil her plan.

As far as the sale of JF-17 aircrafts to Myanmar is concerned, so it is jointly manufactured by Chinese state-run Aviation Industry Corp of China and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC). Pakistan produces 58% of the airframe and China 42% of it. Chinese allowed that sale because of her own interests with Myanmar, and PAC signed that deal with Myanmar at the Paris air show in June 2015. It is more than half a US billion dollar deal against sixteen aircrafts. Pakistan conducted that deal to increase her influence in Myanmar; otherwise India was trying to sale her Tejas plane to increase her dominance in the Burmese government. By doing such deals with all the neighbors, except Pakistan, India is becoming a dominant power in the region, as Sri Lanka has been under pressure from the Indian government not to purchase JF-17 from Pakistan, because India offered its own light combat aircraft to the country.

When any country purchases high technology aircrafts from another, then former comes under the pressure of latter for buying parts and repair of jets in the future, which is favorable for Pakistan. PAF also has to replace her obsolete fleet of F7/PG, for which it has to generate revenue, and for that purpose PAF is finalizing such deals.

In case if Pakistan navy uses sea route to attack Myanmar, then we will have to face Indian and Bangladesh Navy first, and it will create a situation of war with not one country, but with three. Contemporarily we are facing multidimensional problems, thus it is not wise to take such step at this time.

Pakistan Army is engaged to defend the country from the Eastern and the Western foes, is also dealing their proxies who remain busy to terrorize our motherland. Our armed forces have to rescue the populace from torrential rains, earthquakes, and floods. At this stage Pakistan’s civilian government should make arrangements to financially, and medically support the Rohingya Muslims, but Pakistan Army should not go there to attack.

My article entitled "RAYMOND DAVIS’S “THE CONTRACTOR” A Plethora of Calumnies" published in September issue of World Times magazine.

Recently, there was a huge commotion in Pakistani media caused by the book entitled ‘The Contractor’ written by Raymond Allen Davis, who killed two men in Lahore, for which he remained incarcerated in 2011 for 49 days. This book is full of anti-Pakistan material and contains mudslinging on former Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha. General Pasha is not the main target though, as he was targeted actually to malign the ISI and Pakistan. It’s a bit strange that a book priced US$17 is being circulated on the internet free of cost, and publisher has not objected to it. On pages 59 to 64 of chapter 13 of this book, it is mentioned that Raymond Davis was facing a financial crisis. It means that he is not so rich, then why he distributed his book as freeware? Rehman Malik, who was the Interior Minister of Pakistan in 2011, has described this book as “a pack of lies” as no such role was played by the then DG ISI in the release of Raymond Davis, as claimed in this controversial book.

Raymond Davis, who is a psychopath and who has tried to commit suicide many a time, is not a literary person and, obviously, not capable of writing a book. It was sponsored by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or (as Mr Rehman Malik said) India’s RAW, and written by a ghostwriter. ISI is considered the world’s best intelligence agency and is known for its professionalism and Pakistanis love it a lot. This book is a part of American propaganda to change Pakistanis’ love for ISI and Pak Army into general abhorrence.

In 2008, Mike McConnell, the then Director of National Intelligence in Bush administration, confronted General Pasha. He accused Pakistan of not doing everything it could to rein in the Pakistani Taliban; he asserted that American intelligence had concluded that most Pakistani assets were still deployed against India. “How dare you tell me how our forces are deployed?” Pasha said in a fierce tone to McConnell.

Before 2011, there was a strong CIA network working in Pakistan, which entered the country on the pretext of eliminating terrorism. When Mr Davis was released in exchange of a payment of $2.4 million as blood money, there was also a condition that CIA agents working in Pakistan will also be removed. Information the ISI got out of Davis enabled Pakistan to make hundreds of arrests and shut down CIA’s information and covert action cells within Pakistan.

Here I present some rebuttals to the claims made in this book, one by one. On Page 44 (PDF format of the book), it’s written, “[T]elevision interviews with people who said the men I’d shot had robbed them earlier in the day indicated that the men were common thieves.” But, the reality is starkly different; no such interview was broadcast in which people would have said that victims were ‘common thieves’. On the same page, it is mentioned that Davis had diplomatic immunity because he carried a diplomatic passport. It is important to note that diplomatic immunity does not solely depend on carrying a diplomatic passport; it is awarded to that embassy staff whose names are provided by embassy to the host country, so they are dealt under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961. Davis was not one of the embassy employees listed on January 25, 2011 i.e. two days before the incident. However, a revised list submitted a day after the incident on January 28 carried his name.
