Yes you are right, this amount is on the higher side, actually my target to save. But one must have enough money as we will be on our own there. And 1lac is not only for clothes, its too for laptop and a smartphone.

I was going through experiences of foreign students in china on a csc forum. According to them a genuine laptop is difficult to find and expensive as all of the laptops manufactured are exported and then imported. As per the student's observation laptops are more expensive than in his south american home country. Also most of the laptops have chinese keyboard instead of english. Even softwares are difficult to find and may not be available in english. Downloading may be a problem bacause of Chiese great firewall. Also a normal jeans may cost around 9k but we can easily find it here in 1.5k to 3k. So taking your laptop and clothes for 1 year from Pakistan is recommended. This might not be a cost for someone who already owns a laptop but for a desktop pc user like me it is.

Regarding the one off settlement, chinese government will pay fee for hostel accommodation but not the hostel security fee, laundry membership fee, internet connection fee, etc. So all of the settlement stipend may be spent on those.

Also someone already there told that university may ask for processing fee which may be between 40-50k before registration so one must confirm from the university about the expected costs before leaving.

On facebook page one person from uet lahore claims to have 87 in engineering.

It may be the worst one available but I think it is still tempting.

Benefits:
1700 yuan per month for 3 years as stipend.
650-700 yuan per month for 3 years as hostel fee.
25k to 45k yuan as tution fee (don't know if its per semester or per year or for entire program).
150 to 250 yuan per university as application fee for admission for three universities.
150 yuan as visa fee (not sure yet if we have to pay it or not)
xx yuan for courier.

Well that person is my friend and the score is of previous year or may be the one before that. Current highest score that I have found so far is 79

FahadK:

I have only heard of 1700 Yuan per month as stipend. Will they also pay us 650-700 yuan for hostel fee? and 150-250 Yuan for application fee? etc or do we have to pay for everything like boarding and lodging etc from our 1700 Yuan stipend?

Thanks

Basic accommodation will be provided (paid by CSC to university which is around 650-700 yuan independent of 1700 yuan stipend). If anyone want to upgrade to a better hostel (for example want room with independent kitchen or an independent room instead of a shared room, etc) then the difference amount will have to be paid by the student. Also some universities may ask for utility bills, this has to be paid out of 1700 yuan stipend.

Generally a student first applies to the university (application money of 150-250 yuan is paid) and if selected, university forward the recommendation to CSC. But in IPC case, student fills out the form and selects program and preferences of university at CSC website, which then forwards the application to preferred universities for selection and final recommendation. Therefore student doesn't need to pay for application fee (This is somewhat the reason universities might ask for processing fee).

*This is my understanding, might be wrong.
