Default How do you study for long hours?

Hi

How do you study for long hours? I heard people who prepare for CSS can study consecutively for 8-12 hours. They start studying from when they wake till they go to sleep. Taking breaks only to eat, shower, and go to the toilet.

Is that possible? Do people actually have such a routine? How do you follow such a routine and make a habit of it? Any tips or advice for that?

Thanks.

Yes it is possible. You need conviction and motivation. If you make css as an important objective in your life and then strong desire to fulfill that objective, then you can study for long hours.

Godspeed.

Please relax there is nothing like that.
Its impossible that you close yourself in a room and study whole day like eating books. No CSS is not done so.

Live your life normally.

Study the CSS Subjects one by one.

For example if you have gone through two chapters of syllabus of one subject. You can switch over to another subject and study it and then change flavour regularly.

You can fix your targets that you should do this much in this month and so on and so forth.

But it is impossible to work like a robot and study since morning till late night and live a life of isolation.. This is never true as far as my own experience.

If you are a free person i mean no job or other activity. You can read Dawn in the morning with breakfast.

Then you can read some Islamic article or topic daily.

Then you can go to your Optional Subject which you have scheduled for the day or week and do a compact study for 3-4 hours.

After lunch you can sleep for 2-3 hours or even 4-5 hours too.

In the evening you can review the optional subject and deduce the studied material in the form of an outline to save it for revision later. It should be a comprehensive outline.

Then you are free and can watch Talk Shows from 8pm to 11 pm to remain in touch with current affairs and news.

After that you can sleep.

This is a myth that for doing CSS you have to work like a robot or a machine and go through books / notes of every academy in the city and you should have large World Maps on the walls of your room and you should have every book on the subject in market and you should study 12 hours a day and should be a bookworm. This is a myth. This kind of horrible narrative is floated by Academies for their vested interests so that aspirants fall a prey to their scheme and join them with the fear of CSS.

CSS does not mean that you should become isolated species. Come on its just an exam.

If you are free then you are very lucky. A good study of 3-5 hours a day for 6 months is more than enough if you are serious. There is no need of imposing CSS-Prison upon yourself. No need to impose an emergency in your life.

At the maximum, you can have two books for a subject. Even two are more than enough.

You should have internet.

Go through Daily Dawn.

Live your life and sit in exam with a positive approach. Do not get so nervous about CSS.

Best luck.

I agree with amna. Just take it easy but be focused for what you study.

Amna explained the whole methodology very simply and nicely. But another flagrant fact is that I.Q level varies from person to person. If you pick things quickly then 5 or 6 hours of concentrated study are more then enough apart from Dawn and other stuff. You have to evaluate yourself actually, i have seen people who study for 12 or more hours a day and still pass an exam with average marks. So don't look at others, every person has their own way and method of study . You should just find out what suits you the best.

It is true that people study 8-12 hr when preparing for the competitive examinations. But the key is to find a routine that suits you and is effective at the same time. Imitating someone else's routine might not work in most cases as everyone have different aptitude and cognitive abilities involved in learning. One thing is for sure that without burning the midnight oil, CSS is not possible.
Goodluck

Interest and motivation make us able to do it. Studying regularly increases stamina and teaches techniques to study and gives 'strength' to our neurons. Make studies your hobby than merely an 'obligation'. Make it interesting by studying from original sources and designing your own notes instead of striking your head with others'! Make a peaceful study environment. Take regular breaks and also have a good nutrition. Walk and jog plus entertain yourself in free time, it will lower your brain's "heat" and "fuel up your batteries" again for a long ride through a beautiful mountain trail.

Make 'squeezed' notes of your own (containing concisely key points) for a later quick review. Derya ko qoozay mn band kerna seekho taakay ap revise kersako plus jab qoozay ko dekho tou der na lagay and socho k ye tou thoray se notes hn kuch mins ka tou kaam hy. That's why medical students don't fear fat books!

Discussion. Broadens your minds and makes things handy and touchy for you. And clarifies things plus makes you judge and examine your self.

Don't forget to have regular breaks and naps

Prayers

And yes, sleep early and wake up early instead of going against the nature that will otherwise strike you back. You are not increasing the day length if you sleep late but merely deteriorating your next day too. Plus never forget, the optimum sleep for a young adult is 7-8 hrs prescribed to be at the right time.

Prayers

Here are few tips which I gathered from some good sources,(professionals) so sharing here.

1: Drink plenty of fresh water and take deep breaths before studying. It helps oxygen to travel to brain hence improving its functioning.

2: Try to sit at quiet place where it is possible to get natural light.

3: Take 10 minute of break after one hour of study.

4: There is little good in studying while feeling dizzy, sleepy etc. So coffee, tea is recommended if you are natural with it.
Either you take it or not, what you must do is to have a walk of 15 minutes, or simply do 20-25 situps. It circulates blood , give you instant energy .

Remember: Energy activated by 15 minute walk is approx. equal to one normal sized chocolate candy.

5: Reward yourself. (This one works best me at least. ) Even a simple reward such as watching your favorite program after studying 2 chapters can help.

last but not the least, everyone has his or her own preferred styles. So analyse yourself and follow the style which keeps you focused and concentrated .
