I wish I could have even 2% of her expressive powers in my writing.
I have read 'Pakistan: Beyond the crisis state'. I'm going out on a limb here by saying that 'Partisans of Allah' is way superior in quality than the former.

I trust your judgement here. Ayesha Jalal is a wizard with words and I love her knowledge and way of expressing thoughts. Always to the point. No beating around the bush that certain writers base their careers on.

You seem like a person with great taste. Would you care to recommend few more books for me to read. I might not be able to read them this year as my list of books is growing longer but I will read them in due time.

Thank you.

I'll concur with what someone said above. "Pakistan Beyond Crisis State" is a book which is over-rated and not worth all that time.

There are myriad books out there which could come in handy but there is only one book which is a must read, to me at least. "Glimpses of World History" by Nehru is one of the best books that I have ever come across. The simplicity with which Nehru expounds events of antiquity is unprecedented. I love this book for Nehru's catchy (yet not complex) expression as well as for how it exhorts us to be compassionate and fearless children of light. It's not merely a book tracing people of bygone times and events of the past lost in mist of antiquity. "As much simple as it is, it is equally edifying; the latter being the reason why it is poles apart from other history books.

First and foremost I recommend (again) The Alchemist then read Saffaal gar by Bushrah Saeed ..

And I will need a lot of brain storming to dig out more such story so first read these two and give me feedback so that I may judge your taste ..

I found the book, "Pakistan beyond a crisis state" an average, fine book. However your suggested book seems very very interesting. I have to say that before your suggestion, I had no idea about this book. I googled it and read reviews of it online. It seems like a fascinating book, the type of book I made this thread for.

I know it would seem over the top but I just placed order for it online. That's how much I got excited for it.

Thank you so much. This is a great recommendation.

I read 'No exit from Pakistan' by Daniel S. Markey sometime ago. What started as something I had to study for a book review at work turned into quite an interesting read. The book talks about the tragic yet essential relationship between Pakistan and United States.

As a book lover, i am completely overwhelmed by this thread. Great work so far i observed on this forum......

Well, if I have to recommend book for CSS, i would go with PAKISTAN: A HARD COUNTRY by anatol Levien. It's contour on all you need to know about Pakistan for the preperation of CSS.

Well that was the idea behind this thread, to read more and get better book suggestions. I am glad you are liking it.
Pakistan: A hard country is a suggested book too. I plan on reading it next month. Thanks for stopping by.

Exactly, I read this thread today by chance, and could not stop myself until read the whole thread. There are very fine books mentioned in this thread. however, we have our whole life to read these books. But for CSS, this year is crucial for the one who are going to give exam this year. Keeping this in mind, I resisted the urge of discussing books apart from CSS and recommended one i deem mandatory for this.

One may differ as this is my personal opinion.
