Default @ahmed faisal

look to the east for holistic progress.

Worthy and commendable effort but i would like to add integral and essential argument.West-lopsided progress, materialistic progress dominant spiritual values declining.East-hall mark is holistic progress both economic and spiritual values.within economic field East has holistic progress-Agriculture,industries,science and technology, trade and commerce, services etc.

Essay of Bertrand Russel on " Reflections on the Reawakening of East" would be greatly helpful in this regard. This topic was my second priority but escaped it in favour of Privatizing higher education-generating knowledge or making money for the opulent.
Best of luck.

Nations can win without fighting.

I (Un)fortunately went against the topic. I argued that Great Nations are in a perennial struggle for dominance and supremacy, and this manifests in Political, Economical and Cultural fighting. I, therefore, took fighting not just as physical combat, but also as the political, economical and cultural warfare which has been a norm of the modern age.

I think I flunked it. The Essay paper was out of the way, with primary focus on literary essays. That freaked me out, and It took me about 40 minutes to decide which essay to attempt.

I did brainstorming for three essays, and finally selected "Nations can win without fighting" because I had more material for it as well as it seemed i could gel it well in terms of coherence, unity and relevance.

However, most of my material was based on British history, which was my optional subject too. After the paper I realized this essay had International relations background, and that I missed the trick.

Outline

1 Introduction

2 Great Nations Defined

_______2.1 Rise of Nation States
_______2.1 Selection of some "Great Nations" for the purpose of this essay
_______2.2 Justification for selection

3 Political Fighting

_______3.1 Britain Continuously at War since its birth as first modern Nation State

___________3.1.1 to 3.1.8 Various Wars Britain waged for political reasons starting from War of English Succession (1689) covering over two centuries and ending in the Second World War. Britain failed to make peace without "Fighting"

______3.2 USA, the second great modern nation after Britain, having bloody Origins.

____________3.2.1 to 3.2.6 Various Wars USA waged for Political reasons without trying to "win without fighting". Starting from American Revolution (1776) and ending on the American Invasion of Afghanistan/Iraq (2004)

4 Economic Fighting
_____4.1 to 4.4 Discussed Wars waged by both Britain and USA for economical reasons in the past 300 years. Treaty of Utrecht (1713) Marked the beginning of economic warfare and it continues to this day. (Iraq--Oil etc)

_____4.5 Economic warfare in even the best managed economic organisations such as European Union. Greek Industry Destroyed by German Goods within EU. Poland and Ireland. etc.

5 Cultural Fighting

Global Village. Influence of American Media on modern human beings. Death of indigenous culture and rise of a universal, Hollywood dictated lifestyle.
American Media's role in the downfall of Soviet Union.

6 Conclusion

Great Nations are in a perennial struggle for political, Economic and cultural fighting. The notion that "great nations can win without fighting" is an illusion and is not supported by history on a consistent basis.

It actually looks quite good! I attempted this essay with the same thesis. My examples were Rise of Islam, Domination of Colonial powers, World wars and Allied victory, and the US winning the cold war.

Well we both think alike don't we?

Your Essay looks more comprehensive though.

Let's just hope we both clear it, because rest of the papers were extremely easy and its rather "Clear the Essay, Clear CSS" this year!

Dear, though I didn't attempt this essay but I shall pinpoint some of technical things of essay.
First of all, I would say that it is an argumentative Essay in which you have to defend your Claim whether Privatising Higher Education a knowledge-oriented or money making.
Intially, You can discuss both aspects of the topic but later you need to part away your claim from the counter argument. For example, you may say
I. Intro
II.an Analysis of privatising of H.E
A. Privatizating H. Education changes Institutes in money making market.
1. Claim 1
2. Claim 2
3. Claim 3
B. P.H.E transforms the institutes as knowledge-based arena
1. Claim 1
2. Claim 2
3. Claim 3
III. P.Higer Education generates unmeasurable knowledge than making money
A. Research Based
B. Affiliation with international Universities
C. In Campus facililities
IV . Conclusion

However, your Essay does not seem to be an argumentative essay but rather you attempted it simply as Cause , and Solution of the topic.
