Analyse the given scenario first, its pros and cons on the longterm profitability of firm
FIND CORE ISSUE BY LOOKING AT SYMPTOMS suggest alternatives to solve core issue explain each alternative ( cost vs benefit) select one alternative among them if figures and tables are given then concentrate more on them 1. Analyse the given scenario first, its pros and cons on the longterm profitability of firm 2. List all issues confronting a firm 3. FIND CORE ISSUE BY LOOKING AT SYMPTOMS 4. suggest alternatives to solve core issue 5. explain each alternative ( cost vs benefit) 6. select one alternative among them (solution) ***if figures and tables are given then concentrate more on them BEAR IN MIND, FINDING CORE ISSUE IS KEY TO GET GOOD MARKS time allocation depends on length of case study and time consumed in writing short essay. Even allocation may be appropriate. Last edited by Syeda Bukhari; Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:16 PM. Reason: Merged/Chain posts |

case study
I know a little about case study so i am sharing this with you.this is from my teacher's lecture
Case Study: • Case study is all about critical thinking • It describes a situation faced by an organization • You have to suggest an action plan according to that specific situation Things to be remember: • Read the case thoroughly and try to get the idea of case background • Don’t give personnel opinion and judgement • Give the answer like an analytical • Don’t be descriptive think like a critical thinker Steps in case study 1st of all read the case study and try to find out the answer of these questions’ • Who is the decision maker? What is their position and responsibility? • What appear to be the issue (of concern, problem, challenge or opportunity?) • Significance of the problem for the organization • Why has the issue arisen and why is the decision maker involve now • When does the decision maker have to decide, resolve, act or dispose of the issue • What is the urgency to the situation When you are going to solve the case study follow the following steps 1) Problem identification • 1st step is defining the problem or issue in the case study • You have to identify the immediate issue that need to be addressed • Differentiate between important and urgency for the issue identified ( sometimes the urgent problem that seems to be solved immediately don’t have any importance for the organization. so identify the problem that is most important for the organization) Important issues are those that have a significance effect on • Profitability • Strategic direction of the company • Source of competitive advantage • Morale of the company employees • Customer satisfaction 2) Analysing the case • In 2nd step you have to figure out the cause and effect of the problem identified • Try to figure out who is affected most by the situation • Identify the constraints of the problem • Identify what are the opportunities that we can avail to solve the problem and compare the opportunities, company and problem • While making the judgement look at the industry standards where our company is operating 3) Generating Alternatives: Develop the ways in which problem can be resolved Be realistic may be dozens of alternatives chose the one that fit within the constraints 4) Evaluate and select the alternatives: • After identifying the alternatives, evaluate them against each other and select the most appropriate. • The best method to evaluate the alternative, develop decision criteria and check the alternative against each decision criteria if it fulfill our criteria then select it • Give a strong justification of your decision. 5) Conclusion At the end write the conclusion that summarizes the main issue and solution. Emphasize on the most effective recommendation. For example An organization facing the problem of declining the profit. 1st of all you have to identify the reasons of profit declining It may be because of Sales declining or Increased cost After analysing the situation we concluded that the issue of profit decline only because of sales declining Now develop the alternatives how we can increase our sales • By offering high quality • By lowering the price • By increasing our promotional/marketing strategies • By offering our product in international market After this we have to select the best alternative that increase our sales For example we select that we will offer high quality product that will increase our sales and profit Develop decision criteria to evaluate the alternative that we have selected. If we offer high quality product to increase our sales either it satisfy the following criteria or not…. • According to the budget of organization • Affordable for the customers • Will not affect the existing price of product • Improve customer satisfaction • Improve financial position • Improve market position • According to the needs of customer If the answer is in yes that by increasing the quality of our products will satisfy these conditions then we take the decision.

there are two accepted formats of writing case studies
1. report form 2. essay form in essay form you compose case studies as follow 1. introduction: define the problem to the reader and make him feel the way you feel when you were presented the case. 2. factors and Solution: define core issues and the solution in organized paragraph forms. 3. Conclusion: conclude the argument and summarize the the whole in a concise concluding para. As the time limit is 2 hrs for both essay and case, which leaves you with 1 hour for each one. The length of the case study can be as much as 5 paras including intro and conclusion. And the same is for the essay which would be around 600-800 words. suggestions are more than welcome from the members, |

Dear Fellows,
The case study given in sample paper is all about on the topic of decision making. Similarly the case study in paper will also be about an issue of management. In above said case study there is a lack of strong leadership and taking bold decisions. The CEO is not courageous to get people answered whether is exploited by his inclusive culture of organization. Fresher must align decision roles with important sources of value and make sure that decisions are made by the right people at the right levels of the organization and just let the people who will live with processes to design and innovate them. Please comment and brainstorm more to help each other. Regards. |

Since head of R&D indicated that lab results showed no adverse side effects of the product, therefore they should have faith in the R&D department. As calling up the product from market is a big decision and will spread bad word of mouth among the costumers.
Another important thing to consider here is the number of people effected, which is just eleven. Now this product is the successor of the best selling supplement and the number of people effected by the product are not enough to call up the product. this is a 450 words solved case study: Fresher product is a proliferating company in the field of performance enhancing supplements used by athletes and gym lovers to increase their stamina and performance. The management environment of organization is a democratic one, where everyone is allowed to present their opinion about problems faced by the company. They recently introduced the successor of their best selling product, and called it Chargeup with liptrine. After a while, health department calls and reported to have 11 cases of gastrointestinal in people who use Chargeup with liptrene. The heads from each department call up a meeting with CEO, and after a bit of discussion decided to callup the product from the market. However, the decision proved to be a bad one when health department called and informed them the case of reported gastro are not due to the charge up and it is free of any such symptoms. Now, what went wrong in the decision making? Of course in today’s environment the goodwill of the company is one of the most valuable assets for the sales of the firm. And when fresher products head of the department are presented with the problem of an unconfirmed side effect of their product, it was the responsibility of Head of PR to present to the group the possible negative effects on the image of the firm. But considering the fact that laboratory tests indicated that there was nothing wrong in the product when the same toxicity is tested on animals, and there were only 11 cases reported to have such symptoms. It was a bit hasty decision to call up the product. Revisions in decision making process must be made in order to assure that sound decisions based on risk analysis and information presented from concerned departments must be made. CEO of the fresher products has to understand that too many opinions are great for the decision making but the analysis of all these possible solutions is critical and usually it takes a bit of time to make long term decisions. The forgone cost and other factors effecting the decision making process must be calculated. The right decision making process for the fresher must be that CEO should have asked a preliminary report on the reported side effects from the head of the departments. Then they call up a meeting discussing all the possible actions presented to CEO in preliminary reports. A research based analysis must be made on all the possible solutions and then group come up with a tentative decision either to call up the product or not. Still if the group has not come up with a final decision they can do the process again and again to see if they can come up with the solution.
