I think tht the syllabus is now mammoth and it requires extra efforts in every subject. Lesser syllabus of optional subjects can provide you with bonus time to prepare compulsory subjects where rate of failure has been high. I have an aptitude of science subjects, nd zoology and psychology ll be easy fr me to prepare but immense syllabus bars me from opting these. If u r tht free, you should strengthen your compulsory subjects frst. and another reason fr choosing these shorter subjects is tht they are easily comprehensible, and do not require in depth aptitude, plus these gives a person an edge of self writing over science and I.Law tht ll require accurate answer and cramming.
Its wht I think, your thinking may vary... :-)

For better choice go through past papers and syllabus of both subjects. I would suggest you to go for Journalism. Interesting, Scoring and easy to prepare.

But I want to know which one of the two will be of any little help to my other optionals as well as which of these two has lesser syllabi.

I am surprised and intrigued as to how the teacher convinced you. There are no subjects that require 'lesser retention'. It all comes down to aptitude and interest.

I am fond of mathematics and in my whole career till Masters level, I hardly ever memorized a formula. Since I didn't memorize anything, I hardly had to work hard at retaining anything. That is because I always did enough practice that the formulas were permanently inscribed in my mind. So how does the retention logic work in my case and in the case of another person who can hardly solve an algebraic equation? At the end of the day, it comes down to aptitude and interest.

Did the teacher also tell you which subjects required lesser retention, because you didn't mention any in your message.

I still believe that irrespective of the length of syllabus, if you are good at a subject, you won't need much time to cover it. At least that is how it works in my case.

Any suggestions on a subject that I can replace it with.

According to your optional choice selection, I.R is best for you as it will also cover the topic of current affair and some topic of pak affair.
