Sir, i need your guidance please.
I am a govt servant (bps 16) for the last 10 years. I saw a dream to become a CSP in 2008 as i graduated in 2007 (PU) and now i have MA political science degree from PU (private) in second class.
Last year, i appeared in section officers promotional exams but failed in one subject
DMC
1. English (including short essay/ precis) 28/50
2. General Knowledge (including current affairs, Pakistan Affairs and Islamyat) 27/50
3. Professional Exam I (Secretariat Instructions, Rules of Business etc) 59/100
4. Professional Exam II (Public Administration, GFR-I-II, HRM and Quality Control (24/100)
I failed in Paper No. 04 due to my own mistake because i misunderstood the syllabus, my concentration remained on Public Administration and only two questions comes from this which i opted others were also opted but due to lack of knowledge i could not perform well.
Now, i am preparing for CSS 2014 and my optional subjects are
Political Science
Indo-Pak History being my favourite
Constitutional Law (already read in Political Science)
Public Administration
I have completed my studies of all subjects except Essay and Current Affairs
what are your kind suggestions to me to prepare for a good outcome.

Faisal Karim Qureshi,
I live in Mari Petroleum Company Daharki, Distt: Ghotki, Sindh, as my father works here. basically i am from Sukkur. Since my childhood i have been lucky enough to live here (MPCL), in this paradise-like beauuutiful colony, no loadshedding, no water/gas etc issues. Awesome school/college and grrrreat teachers etc.
It is mostly occupied by engineers, doctors and business nerds, so i was always motivated to become an engineer.
I was good at studies so i got selected in MUET, Jamshoro and was allocated Telecommunication Engineering as i desired. My brother was 1 year senior to me there and was doing Computer System Engineering.
With time i was losing interest in engineering, it was not my niche. however i continued with it and never failed. Then my friends told me about CSS, i started liking it, but i didn't pay much heed to it at that time.

Then one night everything changed,

in my final semester, one night I was going to my hostel after dinner with 3 of my friends when suddenly 2 mobile snatchers appeared. the man with pistol stood by me and the other guy(unarmed) went to my friends for snatching. I was not ready to hand him over my mobile which contained family pics etc. so i wore my brass knuckles (it was in my pocket, self defence measure) and hit that armed guy with severe blow on his face, he shot me unintentionally due to an unexpected jawbreaker punch, on my thigh. then they ran away empty handed. thanks God, the bullet did not touch my thighbone.
then hospital....
my dad rebuked me..
mom loved me...
neighbours praised me..
relatives.. mixed response etc..
but i was totally totally happy and satisfied.
On that day i decided to do CSS and join police...

then,

after completing my engineering i asked Dad for further studies.
My dad's only demand was to see my engineering degree, when i provided it to him, he did not even ask me to apply for job.. he gave me a blank check to do whatever i want.

I also wanted to do MBA from LUMS, Lahore because i had an impression that CSS is a gamble and can't be relied upon.
My father was ready for both the options.

Having 2 equally lucrative options in my mind, i resorted to ISTKHAARA,
I got my answer the first time i.e CSS.
So i came to lahore for the first time, for CSS.

I knew that unlike me, other aspirants are book worms and work harder than me (as i am an easygoing person), so it was impossible for me to beat them head to head by mere hard work. So i chalked out a plan that "i would beat them in MY home-ground (smart work)." Alhamduillah, I am good at handwriting, creativity and a bit spiritualism using science

First of all, i considered that before starting anything, a Bismillah is mandatory. But as CSS is a big task, so my Bismillah should also be of grand size. I am not a "tableeghi Jamaat" person, but even then i set out with them for 3 days in Lahore, a good experience it was!
after returning, i started my studies. i am allergic to newspapers so i never touched it. i joined an academy but covered everything all alone. i never grouped myself with any CSS aspirant, i am not a social type of person and i do not make many friends in my real life. i lived in Central Plaza, Barkat Market, and all my flat-mates were ACCA students. They are all awesome.

Anyways, i studied, i watched movies, i hanged around with my flatmates. even on the last day before exams, i spent my whole day shopping for my new dresses for exams.
One more important thing i did before exams. i selected 'my pen'. after trying many renowned brands, my brain said yes to "COMPO." an awwwesome pen, made for me indeed!

My exam center was Govt: science college, wahdat road. an awesome center. i loved that because it had peaceful environment, with big grounds to sit under tree-shades... perhaps i was the only person there to come, study and go back alone. at break times between two papers, i still remember that i used to sit under a tree, eat my fruitamins (canned fruits in syrup) and watch other candidates cramming things loudly...
My age-old practice is that, i always call my mother before entering examination hall for special package of prayers

Time passed, and one day i got qualified,
meanwhile, my craze towards police faded away.

i reconsidered my priorities, and opted DMG at the top.
but guess what, God punished my british history paper so badly that i got allocated in OMG

That really proved to be a blessing in disguise, because earlier i didn't know about OMG, and now, after knowing it, i loooooove it more than DMG, as it suits my moderate personality

Now my elder brother is alhamdulillah Software engineer in Sweden, and I am a CSP in Pakistan
the best thing i found is the prestigous name of MUET, jamshoro. well TL-MUET k teachers ka general impression aisa rough hota apny students k sath k after completion of B.E and by maintaining such gestures they can easly qualify this exAm. well just kiddind
whatever bad luck with british history, almighty ALLAH has promised the outcome of hardship. best of luck brother

Indopak history is good, if you are interested in it then it is real good. A bit lengthy too. But it helps you a lot in Pak Affairs, so, it's okay.

Geography is a scoring subject, but it is quite a lengthy. it can give you a real hard time if you do not tackle its paper properly.

Muslim law is not good enough for now.

journalism/socio are good but not better than regional language or public administration.

I would suggest you to opt

1. Economics (just check its past papers, you will find them easy for you, moreover it awill also help you in economy related things in essay, pak affairs and current affairs)

2. Indopak

3. Geography, only if you are really really interested in it, otherwise go for journalism+regional language.

final decision rests in your hands
PLEASE tel me
i have been guided that economics have very lengthy syllabus and it have very low scoring trend in css..

Great! You will inshaAllah Qualify CSS, i am pretty sure of that.
Anyways, regarding your queries about C.A and Essay, please have a look on last 3,4 pages of current thread, you will find much guidance about them both.
read them, and ask me again if there is something still tingling in your mind

hahahaha... dear, i never took any teacher or his wrath seriously and i always did what i liked to do, and guess what, with time my teachers started liking me regardless of my mischievous nature
spent a memorable time in MUET, on bike, with friend, roaming around, sindh university, channa chaat in front of CC.. etc etc

anyways, God punished my British history only to favour me dear, otherwise i would have got allocated in some other group without even knowing what i have missed. OMG is really according to my nature

Should i Change them or keep them for my upcoming attempts.

Dear, it all depends upon the way you tackle your paper, i know a person who got 150 marks in economics.
This subject is indeed a tough one, but hopefully not for guys like you (MA economics)
you must check the past papers and take your final decision only after that

It totally depends on you.
There are a few people who can't study without making notes of any subject with their own hands.

however, if you really like to make notes then only focus on important points and essential facts and figures, and yes, brief notes would be better. you can even revise them during exams in an short time

Trend change of psychology:
Dear, once in a while it happens with every subject. when any subject gets swelled up with large number of candidates, examiner presents a fearful paper so that the population may reduce
But, keep in mind, if your concepts are clear you can tackle any pattern properly. moreover, difficult papers, mostly yield comparatively good scores.

You must revise your optionals,
replace muslim law with your regional language, if convenient for you.
islamic history is good if you are comfortable with it.

and as far as availing CSS 2014 is concerned, you must start preparing your compulsories for now, till the result gets announced. if you qualify it inshaAllah, then avail this attempt only if you think that your previous attempt was below average and there are lesser chances of allocation. and if God forbades, you get failed, then avail this chance whatsoever. In that case you will receive your marks sheet as well, you may reconsider your optional after that. moreover, you just have to revise things now. there's more than enough time for that.

But keep one thing in mind, CSS attempts are very precious, don't just squander them. avail any chance only if you are confident enough, especially when you can afford to skip 1 year. Ask the value of CSS chance from those who fail thrice, or exceed their age limit.

You're absolutely right SIR,being an MBA student I don't have any issue of confidance as you said that jerking legs etc.

The problem with me is that...
For example my father use to say that I'll make my family proud one day but I always used to ask my self how I can do this,I'm not that much able but when I was receiving my gold medal from Governor Balochistan Zulfiqar Magsi I said to myself Yes,I did it...

Now how can I overcome this issue, that is confidence, the self confidance which I dont have on my own self...

You said that you spent all your day in shopping and on the other day you were having essay paper.
Want to be like you...

I still remember on 22nd of february I was solving past year essay papers till 03:30 am... because I was having paper on 23rd. I'm a book worm you can say but now I don't want to be,I want to enjoy my life.

I think now you will understand my problem and suggest me ways to tackle this...
Thanks
