Language Issues in pakistan's education sector

Medium of education is a controversial issue in Pakistan
only 3 to 4 % of population can speak english (According to what? (source?
English is making lesser-known languages disappear
It doesn’t reflect our culture, values and traditions

Conclusion

Introduction
Globally, the multifaceted development of the English language is unmatched. We know that we are living in the world of globalization. No one can deny the huge benefits of English, as it is being accepted universally. The national language of Pakistan is Urdu but English has been the official language for communication over the last six decade(s) since its independence. Pakistani educational institutes predominantly use English as a medium of instruction and are generally considered as more quality oriented in terms of pedagogy, textbooks, and physical infrastructure. At higher educational levels i.e. graduation, post-graduation and professional education, the system is more or less uniform and the curriculum mostly taught in English. Knowing english will make you bilingual and more employable. It’s amazing that learning just one language gives you access to almost all knowledge on the Internet and in books. It is widely used in official, business, government and legal contracts. It facilitates communication and commercial transaction between countries and cultures. Admittedly, English as medium of education is a controversial issue in Pakistan. It is very difficult to unify all the institutions at one medium. only 3 to 4 % of population can speak english and it is making lesser-known languages disappear. Hence, the cultural heritage and nation identity are about to vanish. In conclusion, in spite of some negative effects, it is apparent that prevalent usage of English brings benefits to people and countries all around. we should learn English owing to its key role in globalization, But at the same time, actions must be taken to protect our native languages and cultures.

English as a medium of education in Pakistan

1. Introduction

2. Historical perspective of English in Pakistan

3. The need for English in Pakistani education system

i. To compete with the best minds in the world
ii. To raise the Education system
iii. Due to demand of English
iv. Almost Every new and old research is in English
v. No development of regional languages
vi. Bridge the communication gap on mass level

4. Hurdles in flourishing English in Educational institutions

i. Dearth of Competent teacher
ii. Lack of teachers’ training
iii. Expensive English medium Schools
iv. Indifference towards English
v. Native languages are widely spoken
vi. No research-oriented culture

5. How to remove these hurdles
i. Government should support English in public sector educational institutions
ii. Private educational institutions should allocate quota for poor students
iii. Training of Teachers should be made sure
iv. Medium of instruction should be in English in Class rooms
v. Foreign help should be taken in this regard

6. Conclusion

English has gained wide currency in education system through out the world, and Pakistan is no exception. For one thing, The English language, unequivocally, is one of the dominant languages in the world. According to a report by UNESCO, estimates have suggested that around 50 percent of today’s spoken languages may be extinct in the year 2100. Education accounts for one of the fundamental factors in the disappearance of these languages. Historically, in 1960s, when some of the people in Pakistan started to get education from abroad there demand in the Pakistani market increased dramatically. This was the turning point in Pakistani education system and then English was introduced in educational institutions in Pakistan. In addition, now the question arises here what is the need for English in our education system. Categorically, English is widely accepted medium of education through out the world. So, if we are to compete with the rest of the world we should flourish English. Secondly, almost each and every new research is being published in English. Thirdly, it is widely spoken language and bridges the gap of communication. Fourth, our regional language, especially Urdu, could not take its due place in our education system. Contrarily, there are still many hurdles which need to be removed if we are to flourish English in our education system. Some of the hurdles are: Dearth of Competent teacher, Lack of teachers’ training, Expensive English medium Schools, Indifference towards English, Native languages are widely spoken, No research-oriented culture to name but a few. As a matter of fact, Government should support English as a medium of education. On the other hand, private schools should allocate adequate quota for poor in their institutions. Further, Teachers’ training and foreign help is of utmost importance in this regard.

You people are highly requested to evaluate this attempt and pinpoint reasonable flaws.

• intermediate level (grades eleven and twelve)
• university level (programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees)

5- Problems of Education system in Pakistan

• Poor polices and bad planning.
• Low budget allocation for education.
• Recent tussle between government and HEC.
• Lack of uniformity due to economic inequality.
• Lack of government interest to restructure education system of the country.
• Discontinuity of democratic government.
• Political influence in education institutions.
• Implementation Gaps in Educational Policies of Pakistan,
• Lack of accountability which leads to corruption in education sector.
• Powerful feudal system in villages and poor areas.
• Outdated syllabus.
• Rote learning system.

6- Conclusion.
Introduction:-
Education is the most constructive factor for any society. It opens new horizons for the people to develop perspectives in different dimensions. Education improves human, Physical and other resources which further improve the factors of production. Education system is the most important need and top priority in a country. Unfortunately, Pakistan lacks a sound education system due to economic, political and social dynamics. Low budget allocation for education is the leading cause behind the deplorable education system of Pakistan. Similarly, wider gap between public private institutions, implementation gaps in educational policies of Pakistan, outdated syllabus, rote learning system, feudalism and meager salaries of the teachers are important factors which are responsible for the failure of goals that are to be delivered by education system of Pakistan. Poor education system has serious repercussions on economy as well as on society. Low GDP, extremism, social unrest, and tarnished image of state in the world community are the major results of poor education system. However, it is need of the hour to take concrete steps to improve the condition of education system of the country. For this purpose, Government should increase the budget allocation for education. Moreover, it is imperative to foster public private partnerships and introduce some more reforms in education sector because nation cannot achieve height of glory without a sound and unified education system in the country.

7.Conclusion

Introduction
Education is a systematic process of establishing the pillar of society. It brings up an empty mind with discourse tongue of awareness. There is no concept of progress and development without education but unfortunately in Pakistan we are failed to understand the importance of education, our low literacy rate i.e 56%( 2013) proved this is the main reason behind our worst standard of education which is fragmented, divided and torn along many lines.Owing to this discriminative system, two parallel streams of education are running in the country, one for privileged elite class and other for middle class. Our government and private institutes are not able to approach an ideal and creative system, they are still constrain to provide a discriminative education they do not have even the same programmed of study.
Education system of Pakistan is facing some serious problems including: lacking adequate funds for proper infrastructure development, there are many parallel education systems existing in Pakistan which foment discrimination and create disparities among the people, lack of creative and practical education, Teachers’ insincerity, obsolete examination system and so many other. The underdeveloped education system of Pakistan has created many evils in the country such as unemployment, poverty ,Violation of Laws, and Corruption.
Historically, a bundle of education policies have been introduced in Pakistan which envisaged ambitious goals, but most often, they lacked true implementation. Some steps that the government might consider to take for improvment of this system are:
Declare education as the highest priority of the government,Use electronic media more extensively for educational purposes,
Examination system need some drastic changes,More emphasis should be given to the development of educational institutions.
This Worst kind of Education system would not take part in development and prosperity of country. Good Governance and fair policy making is need of the hour. On this concern Government should come forward and play fair role as Eucation is key to development.

Sorry a little bit correction of spellings .Our government and private institutes are not able to approach an ideal and creative system, they are still (constraint) to provide a discriminative education, they do not have even the same (programme) of study.
Well done. It is a comprehensive outline. You have covered each and every point of the topic. Keep it Up.

English as the Medium of Education in Pakistan

Outline.

1-Introduction.
(A). English as an international language
(B). English and education.

2-Historical background of English in our education.

3-Current use of English in education.

4-Why English is so important in Education?
(A) Language of science and technology. This is not appropriate because many countries of the world where English is not used as mode of communication like china, France, Italy are technologically wise strong.
(B) International status.
(C) Language of communication.

5-Impacts of English on education
(A) Creates bilingual dilemma.
(B) Undermines the importance of national language
(C) Less conducive in imparting knowledge.
(D) Creating divide in society.

6-Remedies to uplift the status of Urdu in education.
(A) Bold and promising educational policies.
(B) Self-improvement.

7-Conclusion.

Introduction
THE importance of English as a tool of communication in education is intimately linked to its international status. We need this language in our education for various reasons. Foremost among them are the facts that it is being spoken in every nook and corner of the world; and that it is a language of science and technology. If we are to understand the relationship of English with our education, it is but imperative to peep that part of our history when British were our undisputed masters. Having established their rule over whole of the subcontinent, they declared English as an official language. Then few of the great Muslim leaders realized that the Muslims could not uplift their social status unless they accepted to learn English and modern education. Since then, anyone who intends to acquire modern education should have command our this language. Admittedly, we cannot dub English only as an unwanted product of past, but there are also few genuine reasons to retain it as a medium of education. This is a language of science and technology; a language of international status and the medium of communication at all levels across the world. Nevertheless, its blind use as a medium in our education has few repercussions. Analysis shows that it creates a bilingual dilemma, undermines the importance of our national language, less productive in imparting essential knowledge and creates a divide in society. If these all facts are kept in mind and few bold steps are taken, we can possibly uplift the status of Urdu in education. This is not to say that we should eradicate English altogether from our curricula. But it should be retained as a supplementary language. Hopefully, this will make us self-sufficient and plug many of pitfalls in our education system.
Good work. Keep it up.May Allah succeed us all. Ameen.
