Is there any possibility that one might get posted in the department of his choice?

No there isn't any. You won't be given a choice in choosing your dept.
lol it sounds great to be in the top 30 list but believe me 20K is way too low. Just get the training and switch after 1 year. that should be the aim.

People who are on waiting list should have very high hopes (HR Manager)
After knowing about 20K people realized that he was right :p

What a tiring day it was. Right from 80AM we were on the get-go!

Started off with some introductions, some videos about TCS's history and "muscle" and more blah blah yada yada, it ended after some time and then I though IT IS TIME! But alas it was TIME but not for something which we had in mind.

They projected the schedule for the day on the screen and leaving us all looking incredulously at the screen and then at each other. Yes it was a full day activity! That stretched to 2.30PM.

After the initial introductions and videos and presentations we were taken for a field trip to one of their area offices which was approx at the a distance of 10-12Kms from their Head office, we left out in their AC vans *oh yes*.

The Area office was a complete contrast to what the Head office was. It looked more like an old deserted mini Airplane Hanger with cages for storing mails and a few small offices and was noway near the standard of the Head Office building. And this will be the offices where we will be deputed for the starting two months. And NO AC's were there btw.

Now after that eye opening realistic view of the ground realities of TCS we head back to the Head Office with Long Faces with our enthuasiam shivering like the flame of a candle on a windy night. There we start with the tour of the several departs in the Head Office, Retail, Sales, Finance and the Express Center. From the tour I surmise that all their departs were staffed appropriately I don't know what are they going to do with 30 new faces.

Then it was time for another presentation and a speech from their HOD - HR, where he said that the MTOs we are hiring will be the future leaders of the company. It is a long term strategy. Ok that did provide some relief, but still I am in a bit of doubt about the placement of 30 fresh people in appropriately staffed departs. Though he mentioned something about a few new projects but that didn't sound much ambitious.

Now at the end of the day after a lot of brain washing, yes thats how I took it. Mr Tabasum (forgot his first name :P) used his words carefully and the cogent style of his speech had us all in confidence, so yes be wary of him he will be presenting in Lahore and Islo as well. Now we were given the details about the offer letter, and as soon as the salary was announced my morale took a nose dive literally..all that grinding for 20k (6 days a week possible long sitting hours). Yes there is training and grooming, but they aren't know for their training and grooming they are only known uptil now to me as a courier company. And since this is their FIRST induction of MTOs, no matter how hard I try can't build up my confidence.

Then finally there was the Q&A segment, there it was revealed that we may be placed anywhere in Pakistan depending on the need after the training, we will have to sit long hours and will have to do few overnight shifts as wells as full 24hour shifts on some occassions, during the training procedure we may be sent to out of City stations and our performance will be judged after every two months.

And that was it.

About my decision, I am currently earning a greater amount than what is being offered for doing very less amount of work. But TCS from the looks of it (I don't know how much true it maybe) has got more opportunities for growth. I am at a crossroads and can't make a decision myself, I am a finance guy and want to pursue my career in finance their finance depart seemed properly staffed without any empty cubiles or seats this is what has left me doubt that we might not get our preferred department at the end of the training session.

what i got is that u r too much worried abt ur placement, well, its not ur headache! u'll be manager after a year or so, thats y u dont need any cubicle or sitting place withclerical staff, u'll have ur office.....secondly i guess ppl dont like thsi bcz of pakage well, i thinks its market competitve salalry they r offering! 20-25 during training n 35k after that n then we;ll be in managerial cadre(future leadres)........bank of pujab n allied bank etc offer 25-30k after training,so its better. so pay isnt that bad
thirdly we wont be signing any bond so can switch for better job, till then we can continue with that,n last but not least is that we should go 4 career oriented job , which it is. TCS is growing fastly, almost every organization use its services. normally private companies r famous that they pay less in start but slowly n gradually they have good packages as comapred to govt sector where pay is good in the start but at the end of the day we end up ruining our career n our abilities (by sitting free) just in the hope of pension etc

so as far as i belive is if u r having good pay but job is not career oriented u should switch.....and all above should boost up morales of others n should not discourage them!

It is definitely not for ladies especially the training period (1st Year). The environment is highly male dominant comprising mostly of clerical staff. Secondly the job is very demanding, rigorous and hard work is a must and you got to be both physically and mentally tough.

We will be assitant managers after training and will still be under someones wing, they don't really head you a depart after 1 year. So yes I am worried about my placement, I don't want to end up in Sales or Retail or their logistics depart. I want to be in FINANCE depart which is what I have studied for the last 6 years and plan to further enhance it in near future.

Yes this is the only thing which is keeping me positive, for resignation there is a clause in the offer letter that we may resign on one months prior notice. And thats just it. No 3 year surety bond.

And yes this seems like a very demanding job, I am not backing away from the hardwork but one cannot compromise for everything. If you are going to kill my social life at least give me good money to keep me motivated enough. Whats the point of going into an MTO program with plans to quit after the first year? What impression will it put on your CV? A kid, who would keep on switching if he/she is squeezed hard. Switching jobs after 1 year leaves a stain on your CV.

Probably yes. It was one of their many vague statements.

I don't know why were they keeping Salary a big secret, even till the end! I can bet if they would have revealed this salary initially they wouldn't have even gotten half the response to what they have, a wise but dirty tactic..*we are an honest organization* that doesn't sound so honest.
