You can not choose 8 subjects. He has only suggested some popular subjects for you to choose from. You can only choose subjects of 600 marks in total.

you are not the only such case brother, though I am new to this forum but preparing for css since a good time.so my piece of advice to you is not to touch any other subjects except english.start with newspaper.besides this read good thought provoking books and autobiographies.this is the desperate remedy to Ratta.

As well as joining an academy is concerned, I do not think it needs in the presence of this forum. I believe , one may think of joining an academy for basic guidance . But after that it is more a waste of time energy and money . However , If one already has basic knowledge of the requirements of CSS, has chosen a sound subject combination and has got good and relevant books of the subjects, one should not join any academy.
Regards.
Sir though I am a junior member and not as much a knowledgeable person as you are but as far as the your view of academy is concerned, I am in 180 degree conflict with you.Though I know academies charge their customers exorbitantly and fleece them but it does not come in our circle of influence,we cannot do anything about it, neither joining an academy is indispensible but on the other hand respective teachers of subjects in academies tell you the art of attempting that particular paper, what to write and what to leave.Any forum like this cannot teach you these things.

Thanks for your precious thoughts sir but if academies tell us to attempt the paper, many Csps are here to tell us the trick and technique according to their experience.
stay happy.

Well in my opinion Islamic history, Sociology and Journalism are good choice. As well as the choice for remaining 200 marks is concerned, in terms of scoring trend arabic is far better then Urdu adab. Urdue genereally is considered a low scoring subject like English Literature. Despite having good interest in both these literatures , urdu and english, less aspirants go for these. And the reason is thier being low scoring. I myself didnot go for them despite the fact that i have my Masters in english and also have good interest in Urdu adab.

On the other hand is the arabic. I myself have this subject in my combination though I dont have its background. Yet I scored 140 in it in my previous attempt. The reason are
I have aptitude for languages.
The paper pattern and syllabus of arabic is aspirants friendly.
The Scoring Trend.
As well as trend is concerned it has almost all the time remained scoring and is expected to remain the same. The reason behind this optimism is the syllabus and paper pattern of this subject.
If you have seen the apaper , the Paper II contains two questions of translation which can give more then 30/40 if prepared properly.
Then there are 40 mcqs. 40 mcqs ( collective of both papers ) keep on getting repeated . ( 30+ from these can be obtained with slight concentrated effort). If only past ten years paper's mcqs are solved , one can score round 30 + scores from the objective.
Then there are 30 marks short questions. 20 marks SQ in paper A and 10 marks SQ in paper B. They also can give maximum out of these if attempted correctly. For them preparing past papers SQ proves very very much helpful.
The rest of the paper consist of theoretical questions which is prepared from notes or books.
In this way , one can see that paper pattern is of such nature that if one can prepare this paper well , one has very bright prospects of getting good marks.

As well as knowledge of the arabic grammar is concerned, that is not much neeeded. Rather without that , using common sense , one can cope with this subject. I know about myself . I didnot find much need of grammar while attempting the paper.
Therefore , I would suggest you to think about arabic and give it a go. But one thing is ceratain one's aptitude and interest matters also.
