@ayezzaS,

I agree that, to much extent the suitability of the group depends on individual's own aptitude and taste. From some aspects even groups like postal service, military land and cantonment, and commerce and trade group are better than others. So person's own choice matters a lot.

But I am really unable to understand that how DMGs, who are a legacy of 18th century's revenue officials, can be termed as "JANASHEEN ov mughals,sher shah soori and english".

for this thee ought to go through the history ov the District administration in the indo-pakistan...i quoted the words ov a senior bureaucrat...go via the books which vehemently argue that english inherited the Revenue system from sher shah soori and mughals...

Just the mere fact that modern day revenue system is based on the lines of the revenue administration of Sher Shah and Mughals, does not make the current revenue officials themselves " JANASHEEN ov mughals,sher shah soori and english...", but yes, they can be called the JANASHEENs of revenue administrators of mughals,sher shah soori and english...

Default anwaartheravian Thank you

I didnt know these details earlier, thanks for sharing. I wanted to know more about their powers, postings and CSP officers starting job right after allocation as? Which one is the best of all in powers and luxury? Errr Dont get me nerd or dumb pls :P

I just wanted to know as PSP joins as ASP (17th grade) When he will be promoted as SP, SSP and DIG? Normally how many years?
And why there are lesser chances for PSP Officers to get promotion in BS-21-22?

Regards,

@MBA: Thanks for the admiration. Let me briefly answer your questions.

The powers and postings of the CSP officers depend on the group they are allocated. In PSP, one is posted as ASP, with two personally selected gunmen, a jeep, a house, salary around 45,000, and other usual facilities. You can browse through the forum to find the perks and privileges of other groups.

The choice of the group depends on person's own preference,taste and attitude. Most people choose PSP, and DMG as their first preference, while some others make other groups as their first preference for instance 2nd Position holder of 2008 had FSP as her 1st preference, while 1st position holder of 2004 had Custom and Excise as her first preference. But if you ask my personal opinion, for men who like action, PSP is THE BEST.

The minimum time required for promotion in next grade for all groups is given in this post:
http://www.cssforum.com.pk/beginners...tml#post132748
Usually, after announcement of the result, it takes roughly 1 year to start CTP, another 1 year to start STP, and after another 9-10 months one gets posting as ASP. After 3-4 years of service as ASP (Grade-17), one is promoted as SP. After 7-8 years of service as SP (Grade 18 & Grade-19), one becomes SSP. And after 6-7 of service as SSP, one becomes DIG(Grade-20). After this, another 6-7 years are required to become AIG (Grade-21), provided one has enough political patronage. There is no criteria for promotion in Grade 22, it is purely on the discretion of the Prime Minister.

The chances of promotion in Grade 21, and Grade 22 are low in PSP as compared to DMG, because the departments in which PSP officers are posted are quite few, unless they are sent on deputation to secretariat group, or on some other assignment. While in DMG, the officer can be posted, almost in ANY department, so the chances of promotion in higher grades are highest. But the good thing about Police is that, the departments in which PSP officers are posted like Police, All intelligence agencies, and anti-corruption etc, they all are Mighty departments.

I have doubt about the salary amount. Is salary of grade 17 not around 17,000-18,000 for PSP?

Please clarify, if I am wrong.

As the pays of police are doubled, the current starting pay of ASP after STP is around 45,000.

@anwerthe ravian...so yet again thee are there with thine ever present despise for DMG.let me tell you that devolution has gotten its eventual fall...its most desired demise!...now just see that in the year 2008-DMg ended at 49 in punjab whilst police had its last pu rol number till 56....so ALI jaffer it still possesses the same charisma-IP and ICS were counterparts so are DMG and POLICE-devolution era has ended in flames!..Devlution has infact blessed DMGians with a ton positions.moreovr,they r sted in 18th grades in their initial postings as illustrated by our worthy forum member-aamer khatak sb....their initial posting are a grade above all others!...rest is thine choice!...remembr...ICs and IP-DMG and POlice are most coveted groups-thee cant demonise DMg for nothing.!

@anwaartheravian
It's good that u have a passion for police.All the groups of civil service have social acceptance and uniqueness so in my view it is wrong to compare some groups with one an onther so kindly stop doing it and leave it for the aspirants to chose any group according to their personality

For DMG I must say it's a wonderful group It has a strong clout in seretariat and among 40 federal secretaries 27 r from DMGs even in the time of devolution
Now it's a time of post devolution and DMGians use all the powers of nazims as an administrator secondly exective magistracy has been restored ,moreover in certain inquries of police officers DMg officers are included in the inquiry comission as is the case of Wah cantt (rape case)
more over DMG officers r considered responsible for law and order in their area because they have the powers which previously nazims enjoyed
the last but not the least the government has declared several times that before local bodies elections there will be amendment in the local government ordinance which will make the local government ordinance a hybrid of Local government ordiances of 1989 and 2001 and nazims won't be responsible for the district adminstration and law and order of the district so in my view DMG is good choice for aspirants
But I must say that everyone has one's own personality so the group selection must be done on personal apptitude as all groups of civil service have prestige,dignity and social status thanx
