Maniac Media
Pakistan has the invariable distinction of having been blessed with many saviors. The latest in market is the media. Some media persons think of themselves as the sole voice of sanity and these so-called analysts and experts think of themselves above anything or anyone. The media’s present crusade on the elected government is beyond any modicum of mannerism. The onslaught seems, at times completely revengeful. Some anchors on a particular news TV are so enthusiastic about finding faults with government that a cap seems to them as an act of treason. AN ABSURDITY AT EXTREME.
These so called saviors think of these utterances as the words of gospels and every act of government as blasphemy. They cannot see any act of the government as worthy of credit. In any civilized society, media plays an impartial observer role telling the facts as they are and crediting for good things and censuring for the bad ones. Media is not as judgmental in any modern state as is ours. The elected president of the country is being so revengefully attacked by a bunch of self-righteous TV anchors who find lashing a girl in public as Islamic. Venezuela presents an excellent example of how media distorts the images of national leaders for its own gain. Those who are shouting foul should look at their own self. How do these media men live a life of luxury? This wealth acquired by blackmailing and live a life of crown is itself highly questionable. The respected profession of media is, unfortunately, in the hands of self-seekers. God bless my country. Pakistan Zindabad |

I used to watch TV programs with keen interest. It has remained my hobby to watch TV news channels alog with net surfing. But in recent past I am observing some anchors with an other angle. I used to love their programs because these were fruitful but in these days they playing very negative role. I smell personal attacks from them, they are fighting like anti state factors, they have considered them as a competitor in running state matters. They have been dreaming of like competitor of judiciary, competitor of executive and every thing else. They have their judgmental role and are in a dreaming world of final opinions. They think that they have the authority to opine on any thing and their opinion is the final decision on any thing. This is really disastrous. Our media should not play such a hate-able and anti state role. They need not play politics. Media is worth praising if it plays healthy role but after observing current programs I hate them like any thing. They have created tension in our society without any reason. This seems a media war, judicial martial law.........and so on. Why are these institutions striving hard to implement their own decisions without considering the jurisdictions.
We as a nation should condemn the negative role of such (so called GOD FORBID omnipotent anchors). We should put a social pressure by not encouraging their such moves. They have considered themselves as the only right persons, only genius persons, and only true persons. They don't seem to be in the favor of nation. We should not be judgmental and need not be emotional. |

It may seem rude to mention names but some anchors on geo tv are talking of thier role in the (invisible) progress of our society at large. Dr Shahid Masood is hell bent upon finding fault with whoever praises anything the govt does.
Is geo a platform for his personal revenge??? does not Kamran Khan think he can run govt better than any other politician in Pakistan?? is the fanatic Ansar Abbasi a messiah for the downtrodden? can Hamid Mir give a ride to the poor on his luxurious 5 door Land Cruiser? Respected Forum Members kindly come forward to correct me if i am wrong? God Bless Pakistan

Yesterday I was invited by a friend of mine to attend a community get-to-gather. We (two other pakis) had a chance to meet the mayor. Someone introduced us to him in the words: Mr. Mayor, we've special guests today who belong to the most dangerous place on earth (Pakistan)." I can't say about the other two guys, but I certainly felt very ashamed on the comments which was taken from Times magazine, I guess. Although my post doesn't look relevant with the topic, but i want to tell you people that we have to realize the real issues affecting us hard and cold. Who are the forces behind occasional yet frequent turmoils across the country? Why they stir the hornets' nest from time to time? Why don't we understand that the only enigma with the democracy in our country is its short life. When we have dictators our media bend upon fighting for democracy; and when we have democracy it try to defeat it hence signaling boots to take care of the country.

I beg to differ
I am surprised at ur comments. As a proclaimed Cynic one can expect this from you though.
The media has the right of criticism if any elected functionary, whosoever he may be,indulges in corruption. You seem to be irritated by the harshness of mediamen on an elected head of state who is very FAMOUS for his corruption skills. Quote:

"A case was brought to a court. The man who accused of adultery was standing before the jury. His COMPLEXION was BLACK. The jury said: 'Do you confess that you're a karo (in here the one who committed adultery).' The man replied with a smirk: 'Your honour, there are six of them who committed adultery but only I was caught' (because of his complexion)." So same goes with poor President Zardari. He is not the only one corrupt among more than 160 million people in this country. My point is that if Zardari is found corrupt, then he should face the justice. However, others also should not be let Scott free!

I support Khanabadosh and Sameen's views. Ayesha is also right about media's right to criticize. The most important thing is that the democracy must be given time. No interruption in the name of saving country from corrupt leaders. That is the job of the public in any democracy. Let our politicians and leaders stand trial before the public and history, not before the Boots.
On the other hand, only a few anchor persons are keeping their wits to help the country. Most are busy selling the news as a product to the market (audience).
