Right . The year was mistakenly written as 2010 instead of 2011.

To start with, I appeared in CSS for the first time in 2008 with 3 months preparation along with a job at a bank. Before this, I didn't know ABC of CSS.
Sir you joined the forum in 2006, how can you say that you didnt know the ABC of CSS in attempting 2008?

Sir g ap to meri investigation krna shru ho gay

Although I joined the Forum in 2006 during my university days when I knew not more than only the word 'CSS'! I even didn't know what do these three letters stand for!! I didn't know about syllabus, subjects, pattern, no. of attempts and things like that. I had planned to postpone the further probe about CSS till the completion of my studies. Circumstances left me in dire need of supporting my family at that time so I started doing a private job and forgot about CSS for the time being. It was only in late 2007 when I started taking interest in knowing about CSS and then ultimately going for it in 2008.

Unfortunately, scoring trend is unknown before the exam. My contact detail is given in my profile.

Thanks Usman for your experience sharing. I would like to share my experience. It was my first attempt and i got through by the grace of Almighty Allah(Merit Number 76).

Essay 55
Comp 51
CA 55
PA 56
EDS 71
Islam 47
Indopk 110
Geogr 133
Journalism 77
Punjabi 81

Written 736
Interview 152

Total 888

I am also a job holder and i prepared along with my job. I prepared almost 1 year but studied properly around 8 months(after 6 PM and on weekends).

Different people have different opinion, but in my opinion following things helped me in getting through this exam:

1. Hard work in the right direction
2. Proper guideline
3.Luck

Nobody should think that if someone has done it in three months he can do it. One should prepare well and should appear in exam with full preparation whether it takes 1 month or 2 years.Everybody knows how well he is prepared to go for CSS exam.

Secondly, do the hard work in right direction. Chose the subjects wisely, study properly, consult the book which meets the requirements of the exam. No need to stick with one book or go for multiple books on one subject. If one book can deliver then what is the need to read multiple books and if one book is not sufficient then do consult multiple books because its a competitive exam and you need to get allocation. Passing is not the criteria or requirement.

Work on your week areas and try to meet the level required to compete.

Specially work on the paper presentation. If you have good knowledge and you are not able to present it in a good way , it will definitely hurt you someway or the other.

After doing this homework, you can leave the rest to Allah. Don't just let everything on luck. Luck is a definite factor , but there shouldn't be any weak area that adds to bad luck and leads to failure

This is my honest opinion and i am not the authority but sharing what i believe and how i took this exam.

Thanks

@ Usman Khalid & Wahab

Dear brothers, plz tell me how people qualify this tough exam by studying just for 3 months? It is really very difficult to cover the huge syllabus in this short span of time.

my second question is that what were your strategies of preparation. did you crammed things or just understood the ideas.

@ Student2K12:

I will say that it depends on the level from which you start preparation. If you are already well updated on the current issues and have interest in the things going around you then it definitely helps you in tackling the css papers. A lot of the stuff in papers is based on current affairs and opinion based. Even set a side this thing, some are extra ordinary people. They are very good at attempting papers or very good at cramming or very good at analyzing things. So, these things matter and luck to some extent also plays some role.

Secondly, normally those who say that they prepared for 3 months and got through are very few but those who work hard and secure good position are large in numbers. So, i will say that don't go for the exceptions, just follow the path which gives more reliability and certainty of success.

Thanks.
