Arrow 5th Passage

5th Paragraph

In its loosest sense, thinking signifies everything that, as we say, is in our heads or that goes through our minds. He who offers a penny for your thoughts does not expect to derive any great bargain. In calling the object of his demand thoughts, he does not intend to ascribe to them dignity, consecutiveness, or truth. Any idle fancy, trivial recollection or fleeting impression will satisfy his demand. Daydreaming, building of castles in the air, that loose flux of casual and disconnected material that floats through our minds in relaxed moments are, in this random sense, thinking. More of our waking life than we should care to admit, even to ourselves, is likely to be whiled away in this inconsequential trifling with idle fancy and unsubstantial hope.

In this sense, silly folk and dullards think. The story is told of a man in slight repute for intelligence, who desiring to be chosen for a public office in his New England town, addressed a group of his neighbors in these words, “I wish you to understand that I am thinking about something or other most of the time” New reflective thought is like this random coursing of things through the mind in that it consists of a succession of things thought of; but it is unlike this, in that the mere chance occurrence of any chance “something or other” in an irregular sequence does not suffice. Reflection involves not simply a sequence of ideas, but a consequence – a consecutive ordering in such a way that each determines the next as its proper outcome, while each in turn leans back upon its predecessors. The successive portions of the reflective thought grow out of one another and support one another; they do not come and go in a medley. Each phase is a step from something to something – technically speaking; it is a term of thought. Each term leaves a deposit which is utilized in the next term. The stream of flow becomes a train, chain or thread. (Words 336) Word limits: 112

Among comman man,any scattered idea or confused substance emerging in mind,is a general and celebrated view about thinking. But such baseless impressions printing quickly on the blank pages of our minds in an irregular and broken series can neither be called thinking in real sense nor can they helpful for us in reality.Thinking is not something that can be called vague, petty or dispersed belief in mind.Rather it is an abstract, solid and rational process that vibrates the strings of significant and exalted ideas in our minds.Every idea gives birth to the other in a methodical manner and then it goes on in a continuous manner.

@ miss naqvi.........
sorry for being late............was busy studying geography so ................anyways here is my precis...........

Thinking, the greatest achievement of mankind is also referred to as anything that goes on inside our head. A person offering a penny for your thoughts is really not expecting much in return. Any idle thought will satisfy his demand. All the thoughts going through an idle mind can also be called “thinking”, and we have to admit that most of our lives are wasted by these idle thoughts, i.e., thoughts about different fantasies and day-dreaming. There is a story about a silly person, who wanted to be chosen for a public office in New England, told his neighbors that he thought of something or the other, most of the time. This new reflective thought is based on inconsequent and trivial thoughts going through one’s mind randomly. A reflection involves a patterned series of thoughts, one following the other, resulting in a consequence and each thought determining its next proper outcome. Such thoughts support each other. This series of thoughts must become something like a train, chain or a thread in order to get the desired result.

Title:
Differece between Thinking and reflective thinking
Precise:

Thinking denotes everything that pass through mind. The process of thinking on a very common level involves all sort of ideas ,it can be idle fancies, daydreaming, baseless hopes, impressions or any recollection. These occure randomely and are devoid of any order or reason lacking dignity. At its sharp contrast is reflective thinking. It is not accidently occured. It involves the proper order of all phases of thinking. Each phase is characterized by the logical outcome of previous one while leading to another and finally lead to a conclusion. All phases are on the whole linked and are bind in a reasonable relationship and thus forming a chain of thoughts.

Sorry members you waited more then long for my corrections.

I m really sorry but now and onward I wont be able to give so much time to the thread for coming 2 months. It is difficult to check each and every precis. I can do one thing that to add a passage and then you can make its precis and I will tell you that upto what level its right. if you are agreed we can proceed if not then I will start that practice again after 2 months. Now waiting for your suggestions.

Actually I have got a job in an NGO and M&E Officer. I m new to the place and there is alot to work and learn apart from 9: 00 to 5: 00 job I m also committed to the tutions and academy and will be free in APR. Another issue is last semester of MA TEFL that has component of thesis as well. So its very hard for me to manage time and work for forum as well. But I will try my level best to work on Sunday atleast.

Best Wishes and Regards

Thumbs up 6th Paragraph

6th Paragraph

There is no doubt that people are growing more and more interested in the seas and that there is a great need for that interest. Men have long tried to probe the secretes of the ocean to gain knowledge for it6s own sake, but there are other practical reasons for doing so. The sea can provide us with many things that we need in every day life. Future generations will probably draw far more on the seas for their food, and not only food in the form of fish. Minerals necessary for modern industries are there also, when we can find out how to extract them.

We have explored and mapped most of the land and we are quickly exploring the air. The seas present a greater difficulty because we cannot yet, and probably never shall be able to, set foot on the deep ocean floor.

The aim of the extensive ocean going expeditions, and of the marine biological stations around the coasts, and even of those who simply study the shore uncovered by the tide, is to build up our knowledge of this vast and unfamiliar world beneath the waves. In some cases the knowledge gained can put to practical use, but much of it is for interest only.

For the very early mariners, interest lay in the current, and especially those at the surface, that carried their ships along. They were also interested in the weather over the sea. Yet, even these hard-bitten seamen were not immune from a curiosity about the animals and plants that lived below the waves. Their first impulse may have been to seek trade overseas, or to fish for food, but over and above this anything strange or beautiful, whether brought up on their nets or cast ashore by the tides, caused them to wonder. So, from the earliest time, the pursuit of the practical everyday things went on side by side with the inquiry that springs from a desire to know more. Bit by bit grew the knowledge of the physical feature, of the seas of such things as currents, waves, and winds, as well as of the biology, the knowledge of animals and plants.

Members sorry for the delay..

Title: Knowledge for its own sake
After exploring land and air man has turned its attention to oceans. The drive to know about the inner life of ocean is more for satisfying the intrest though practical advantages like food and minerals are also there. The purpose of all activities related to marine life is directed to gain more knowledge of it.Sometimes this knowledge can yeild practical benefits and sometimes it does not.For earlier mariners the outward features of oceans were important but they too were fascinated to know the inner life of ocean. There first intrest may be practical but the element of curiousity was also there.Ulterior motives of knowledge have always been accompained with the urge to know for its own sake.

Man's curious instinct forced him intensely to explore & uncover the unknown facts about sea, not only to extract various benefits ,like food and minerals, but to satisfy his eagreness of learing.Coming generation may contribute alot in this regard. But inspite of innumerable efforts we are still unable to know what is hidden in its depth. To achieve this purpose many measures are taken by seamen and those intrested to know about it.The basic incentive of these steps is to carry the knowledge pertaining to sea into our practical life & to learn. In this way man's knowledge about sea kept growing.

Cool

Well, here goes nothing.....here's my precis for the 6th paragraph.....

The Reasons for the Exploration of the Oceans and the Seas

In spite of the fact that the exploration of the seas is harder than that of the land or the air, interest in the oceans is increasing. Whereas earlier information regarding the waterways was gathered for helping in sea voyages and for commercial reasons, presently the purpose of sea exploration around the world is to gather knowledge about the oceans for scientific, practical, industrial and inquisitive reasons. Furthermore, curiosity for the things beneath the surface of the oceans, deep in the water, led to investigation of everything about the seas and within it. In the future, the quest for knowledge about the seas will be more pragmatic such as the excavation of food and minerals as compared to having just scientific applications.
